GENEVA, NY – Senior captain Josephine Libby posted a pair of wins in singles play and is the lone singles or doubles player representing the University of Rochester women's tennis team to remain alive in the main draw of action after day one at the William Smith Mary Hosking Invitational on Saturday.

Libby, in a quest for a third straight A flight singles title at the event, posted an 8-1 win over Alys Pop of Ithaca before topping RPI's Lorna Flores Gonzalez 8-5 in the quarterfinals. During Sunday's semifinal round of singles action, Libby will square off with top-seeded Kira Kronenberg of RIT.

Overall on the day, UR's six singles players and three doubles teams combined for six wins across a multitude of flights.

First-year Katie Yang also played in the A flight singles bracket and won her opening round match 8-0 over Natalie Pipes of Geneseo. In the second round, Yang succumbed to St. Lawrence's Molly Jespersen by an 8-1 score.

In the B singles flight, Jasmin Toor won in a close match over Emily Greb of RIT, winning in a tiebreak, edging out an 8-7 (7-5) score. In the next round, Union's Samantha Jacobs topped Toor 8-2.

Another Union player, Skylar Senon, upended Rochester's other B flight singles player, first-year Lilly Caldwell by an 8-4 score in the opening round.

During singles play in the C flight bracket, both of UR's entrants, Neha Dania and Sahithi Mathukumilli were defeated in the opening round. Dania lost 8-3 to Union's Claire Langille, while Mathukumilli dropped an 8-1 decision to RPI's Kaaviya Kannan.

In doubles, one team in both the A and B flight earned a match win during the first round. Caldwell and Toor paired for an 8-5 win over a team from Geneseo during the A flight bracket, but were dropped in the next round 8-3 against a St. Lawrence duo. Also, Libby and Yang were doubles partners in the A flight, with that team falling by an 8-7 (4) score in a back-and-forth battle against a team from Union.
