SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – University of Rochester women's tennis saw its top doubles team of Josephine Libby and Katie Yang advance to the quarterfinals on day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women's Northeast Regional Championships, hosted by Skidmore College.
 
Libby and Yang topped Skidmore's Beilynn Geiss and Ella Provost, 8-6, in their opening-round match, and then defeated The College of New Jersey's Zoey Albert and Gabrielle Brideau in the Round of 16, 8-6, to move onto the quarterfinals.
 
UR's doubles duo will face NYU's Jimena Menendez and Isabella Hartman on Sunday, with a spot in the semifinals on the line.
 
In singles action, Wang earned a win in her opening-round matchup, edging Union's Skylar Semon. Semon took the first set, 6-4, while Wang tallied the second, 6-1, before winning the third-set tiebreaker, 10-3 to advance. Wang then fell to Hamilton College's Muhan Cui in the Round of 16: 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.
 
Jasmin Toor also scored an opening-round win at ITAs, advancing past St. Lawrence's Ariane Karera after the sophomore had to retire. Toor then was defeated in the next round by RPI's Gauri Muliyil: 1-6, 2-6.
 
Libby also competed in singles play for UR, but was upset on the third-set tiebreak by Vassar's Madison Kirby. UR's senior captain took the first set, 6-4, but then dropped the second on a tiebreak: 7-6 (7-4), and fell just short on the third-set tiebreak, 11-9.
 
Day two of the ITA Northeast Regional in Saratoga Springs, NY will get going on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 8:30 a.m.
