Libby, Yang See ITA Regional Run End in Doubles Semifinals

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The lone participants left in action for the University of Rochester women's tennis team on day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships pulled off a big upset before falling in the semifinal round of doubles play at Skidmore College on Sunday afternoon.
 
Senior Josephine Libby and first-year Katie Yang were the Yellowjacket representatives that made it through the opening day of play on Saturday in the doubles bracket.
 
Both also played in singles, but were eliminated during the first day of play.
 
On Sunday, Libby and Yang paired together to pull off a big upset, winning by an impressive 8-3 score over the team of Jimena Menendez and Isabella Hartman of NYU. The NYU duo entered the tournament as the second seed in the 32-team doubles event.
 
In the semifinal round, the UR combo matched up with Siona Vallabhaneni and Victoria Wang, also of NYU which is one of Rochester's conference rivals in the UAA.
 
During the match, Libby and Yang fell behind and attempted to mount a comeback, but the rally fell short, with the NYU team winning by an 8-5 score.
 
For her career, Libby impressed in four years at the ITA Northeast regionals, reaching the singles semifinals twice and doubles semifinals twice.
 
Rochester's women will now have off for the remainder of the fall season and will return to action in February to start their dual match campaign.
