Rowers Start Season with Sculling Action at Ithaca

ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester rowing team got its 2024-25 season started last weekend, competing at the Cayuga Sprints along the Cayuga Inlet.
 
Seven individuals from the roster took part in the competition which featured doubles, pairs and singles sculling competitions.
 
The highlight of the day was senior Anushka Aritharan and graduate student Madeleine LaChance earning an event win in the lightweight double with their overall time of 16:49.2. Aritharan and LaChance rowed to a time of 8:35.2 in the morning 2K time trial and later posted a 1K sprint time of 4:07.0. They were eighth in the morning racing overall and ended sixth in the afternoon, ranking eighth in total time among the 27 entries overall on the day.
 
UR's other double team of first-year Emme Sipera and Kennedy Leininger ended second of four teams in their class with a time of 17:39.2, ranking 14th overall in the field. In morning racing, that team earned a time of 8:57.4, and that result was followed by a 1K sprint time of 4:20.9.
 
In the pair event, Rochester's Jinx Allison and Ava Prevey-Sullivan wrapped up the competition with a time of 17:08.8 overall, good for 10th among the 27 boats on the day. The duo had a time of 8:38.3 during the 2K time trial and later had a sprint time of 4:20.9.
 
Rochester's final entry in the competition was a single boat, consisting of senior Elizabeth Lotts. Lotts finished 27th overall with a time of 20:33.9 encompassing the morning and afternoon racing.
 
The full squad gets its first taste of rowing action at the Head of the Genesee on October 12th.
