HENRIETTA, NY – The University of Rochester men's swimming & diving team kicked off the 2025 portion of their schedule with a dual meet against the 20th-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Judson Pool, falling to the Tigers by the final score of 216-81.
Max McClung tallied UR's lone first-place finish of the afternoon, taking home the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:58.12.
Connor Kann joined McClung on the podium with a third-place result, clocking in at 2:00.42.
McClung also added a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (52.35) and a fourth-place result in the 100-yard butterfly (53.00), while Kann was UR's top finisher in the 200-yard freestyle, coming in third (1:46.46), with
Michael Scholz right behind him in fourth place (1:47.61).
Both McClung and Kann also competed on UR's relays, with the 200-yard medley, led off by McClung along with
Brian Wong,
Eli Muldoon and
Ben Friedberg, finishing second with a time to 1:36.38, while UR's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kann,
Jeremy Mah, Friedberg and Scholz also finished second, touching the wall in 1:27.15.
Bryce Berkhof was the Yellowjackets' top finisher in both distance events, taking second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.43) and third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:15.92).
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Wong took second, clocking in at 59.02, while
Jack Zapp placed fourth, finishing just shy of a minute at 1:00.47. Zapp also placed in both the 200-yard breaststroke and 200 IM, earning second place in both events as UR's top finisher. Zapp touched the wall in 2:11.54 in the 200-yard breaststroke, and 2:00.42 in the 200-yard individual medley.
UR added three more second-place tallies on the afternoon, in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle and the one-meter dive. Friedberg took second in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 22.11 seconds, while Scholz finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (48.18), with
Nate Attwell a spot behind him in fourth place with a time of 49.46.
Brendan Habert secured the 'Jackets top diving result in the one-meter, placing second with a 257.45 score, while
Max Wozinski was UR's top finisher in the three-meter dive, earning a third-place result with 248.60 points.
The Yellowjackets will next wrap up the regular season with their Senior Day Tri-Meet against SUNY Brockport and Monroe Community College on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 12:00 p.m. inside the Speegle-Wilbraham Center.
