FREDONIA, NY – The University of Rochester men's swimming and diving team split a pair of matchups in the pool on Saturday afternoon, defeating host Fredonia while getting edged by Alfred University in a tri-meet at Fredonia's Steele Hall Natatorium.
The Yellowjackets saw their record move to 2-2 on the season, with another tri-meet on deck for next week at SUNY Brockport against the host Golden Eagles and Nazareth University.
Rochester ended up crushing Fredonia 221-22, with Alfred winning 151-140 over the Yellowjackets in Saturday's team scoring.
Three Yellowjackets finished as double-winners, with Rochester claiming six event wins overall.
Connor Kann (200 freestyle, 200 free relay), Benjamin Friedberg (50 free, 200 free relay) and
Demo Hong (100 butterfly, 200 free relay) each earned multiple wins on the day.
URochester's other wins came from
Max Wozinski on the 3-meter diving board (234.98 points) and
Patrick Li in the 200 butterfly (2:01.16).
Kann's win in the 200 freestyle (1:48.04) was part of a 1-2 finish for Rochester, with teammate
Nate Attwell ended as runner-up in 1:48.91.
Li and
Ryan Bowering posted a similar 1-2 finish in the 200 butterfly, with Li clocking in at 2:01.16, and Bowering finishing at 2:04.03.
Hong's time of 53.48 seconds led a third 1-2 Rochester result in the 100 butterfly, with
Jayden Proctor ended second in 54.38 seconds.
Rochester's team in the 200 freestyle relay closed the meet strong with a victory in that event, as
Sebastian Gans, Hong, Kann and Friedberg posting a time of 1:28.19.
In addition to six wins, the Yellowjackets piled up ten second place finishes on the day.
