Men’s Swim & Dive Wraps up Bomber Invite in Second Place

ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester men's swimming & diving team earned a second-place finish, tallying five top-three results on the final day of the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational on Saturday evening inside Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium.
 
Rochester finished the three-day meet in second place with 1,417 points, behind first-place finisher and host Ithaca, who tallied 2,797 points. Alfred University rounded out the top-three finishers in the six-team field, ending the meet with 1,097 points.
 
The Yellowjackets began the final evening's finals with the 'A' final of the 1,650-yard freestyle, and saw a pair of 'Jackets earn top-five results. Matthew Spence took second place, touching the wall in 16:13.71, the 34th-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season, while Tyler Yeung finished in fifth with a time of 16:34.06.
 
Next up in the 200-yard backstroke, Max McClung scored the Yellowjackets' lone, individual win of the day, topping the podium with a first-place time of 1:49.73, the 22nd-fastest 200 backstroke so far in Division III this season.
 
Sebastian Gans joined McClung in the 200-backstroke 'A' final, placing seventh with a time of 1:55.27.
 
URochester also earned a win earlier in the day in the Men's Team Diving Event, as Brendan Habert and Max Wozinski combined to score 274.10 points and win the combined diving event for Rochester.
 
Elsewhere in the individual finals, Patrick Li took third in the 200-yard butterfly, clocking in at 1:56.58, with Ryan Bowering right behind him in fourth place, touching the wall in 1:57.46.
 
In the 100-yard freestyle, five Yellowjackets swam in the finals, including a pair, Nate Attwell and Ben Friedberg, in the 'A' final. Attwell and Friedberg finished back-to-back, sixth and seventh, in the 'A' final, with times of 47.53 and 47.65 seconds, respectively, while Connor Kann (9th, 46.95) and Venden Berge (9th, 46.95) clocked in the 'B' final.
 
In the 'C' final, Brandon Weaver earned a 19th-place result with his time of 48.62 seconds.
 
Max Gjevre paced the Yellowjackets in the 200-yard breaststroke, placing seventh in the 'A' final with a time of 2:11.42.
 
Rochester wrapped up the Bomber Invitational with the 400-yard freestyle relay, with UR's 'A' relay placing second, and the 'B' relay coming in eighth. McClung, Kann, Friedberg and Attwell combined for a 3:07.79 time to finish second, while Jayden Proctor, Gans, Spence and Berge came in eighth with a time of 3:14.31.
 
The Yellowjackets will be back in action following their winter break when they make the short trip down to Henrietta, NY, to face RIT in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1:00 p.m.
