UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – University of Rochester men's track & field senior
Cole Goodman defeated a field composed entirely of Goodman and NCAA Division I athletes, winning the triple jump competition with a 15.54m leap at the Penn State National Open on Saturday at PSU's Multi-Sport Facility,
Goodman's winning jump of 15.54m came on his fifth attempt after advancing to the finals with a 15.19m leap on his first attempt. The senior fell just 0.03 meters short of tying his own school record, set at the Nazareth Alumni Open in December.
The 15.54m leap, Goodman's second-longest triple jump to date, is the 10th-best triple jump in NCAA Division III history, while his 15.57m school record ranks sixth, and is currently the No. 1 mark in Division III this season. The 15.54m jump would rank second.
Goodman's 15.19m jump in the first round of competition put the senior in second place heading to the finals, before his 15.54m leap surpassed Norfolk State's Isaac Haywood's 15.31m jump, also from the first round, to vault into first place, where Goodman stood the rest of the way.
Rochester men's track & field is back in action at the two-day SUNY Brockport Multi & Invitational, beginning on Friday, Feb. 7 at 4:00 p.m. in Brockport, NY.
