PITTSFORD, NY – The University of Rochester men's track & field team notched a pair of top-two results and four All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championship (AARTFC) qualifiers on the first day of the D3 Elite Meet, hosted by Nazareth University at the Golisano Training Center.
Jordan Johnson took home Rochester's lone event win of the night, notching first place in the weight throw with an 18.50m toss, the second-longest weight throw in program history, behind Johnson's own school record, set earlier this year. Johnson's throw also hit the regional-qualification mark and would rank 11th on the NCAA Division III indoor Performance List, had he not had a previous, higher mark.
Elsewhere in the field events,
Cody Reeth and
Emmett Hansen both earned top-10 results in the pole vault, with Reeth placing second with a height of 4.48m, an AARTFC qualifier, while Hansen came in ninth with a 4.18m height.
In the long jump,
Aadit Jain scored Rochester's top result with a fifth-place, 6.65m leap, another AARTFC qualifier, while
Manny Eribo finished 10th, jumping 6.59m.
Vishal Yalamanchili got the Yellowjackets day started in the track events with the 5,000 meters, finishing fourth with a new personal-best time of 15:00.46. Yalamanchili's time was also a regional qualifier, as the senior shaved nearly six seconds off his previous PR.
Mark Magyar was Rochester's top finisher in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 15th with an 8.956-second time, while
Ronan Marston qualified for Saturday's 60-meter final, winning his heat in 7.14 seconds, eighth overall in the 50-runner field.
Marston will get the Yellowjackets started on the track on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Golisano Training Center when day two of the Nazareth D3 Elite Meet gets going at 10:00 a.m.
