BOSTON – Nine individuals representing the University of Rochester men's track and field team recorded multiple personal-best's and notched a pair of All-Atlantic Regional qualifying performances at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday afternoon at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
UR's final event of the day was the highlight, as Rochester's
Gabe Thyne,
Mitch Lienert,
Greg Palma and
Evan Bryant finished 16th in the 4x400 meter relay, posting a time of 3:18.70, ranking as the 26th fastest time in Division III so far this season. That time also was a regional qualifier for the Yellowjackets.
The other regional mark was hit by
Brendan McCollum in the 800 meters, with the junior clocking in at 1:54.96, a new indoor personal-best performance. In the field of 240 competitors, most hailing from Division I schools, McCollum ranked 132nd.
Additional runners in the 800 meters were
Jacob Bernd, who finished in 1:56.36 for a season-best time,
Skye Crocker (1:57.22) and
Sean Hendricks (2:09.10).
During the 200 meter invitational heats, senior
P.J. London ranked 30th with a 22.40 second time. During the open 200 meters,
Greg Palma clocked at 22.69 seconds, good for 60th of 146 runners in that event. Both were season-best times.
Rochester's last event featured Bryant running to 59th place (of 121) in the 400 meters. His time of 50.38 seconds established a new indoor personal-best for the sophomore.
This weekend, UR is running as a split squad, with much of the rest of the team competing at the Nazareth D3 Elite Invitational in the local Rochester-area later on Friday and Saturday.
