BROCKPORT, NY – Four members competing in the heptathlon at the SUNY Brockport Multi & Invitational combined to set five personal best's across the four events contested on Friday evening at the Special Events and Recreation Center at SUNY Brockport.
Senior
Gabe Thyne ranks in third place among the 15 total competitors in the heptathlon with 2,602 points on day one. He finished second in both the long jump and shot put and ranked third in the field in the 60 meters and high jump.
Thyne's marks in both the shot put (10.72 meters) and long jump (6.56 meters) were new personal best distances. Additionally, he finished the 60 meters in 7.33 seconds and wrapped up the day with a 1.76 meters height in the high jump.
Sophomore
Ashton Tokarski finished the first day of the competition in seventh, scoring 2,435 points. His top event was the high jump where he also cleared 1.76 meters, a new personal-best, to rank third. He added a 7.46 second sprint in the 60 meters and hit a 6.24 meter jump in the long jump, seventh best in both events. His shot put mark of 9.86 meters was ninth among the competitors.
First-year
Emmett Hansen sits right behind Tokarski in eighth place, scoring 2,343 points on Friday. The rookie ranked fifth in the long jump (6.32 meters), sixth in the 60 meters (7.43 seconds) and seventh in the shot put (9.88 meters). In the high jump, Hansen cleared 1.61 meters to rank 13th.
UR's final competitor was junior
Jack Maness who sits 11th overall with 2,213 points. Maness hit PR's in both the shot put (7th, 9.88 meters) and high jump (11th, 1.67 meters). Rounding out his opening day, Maness finished 10th in the 60 meters (7.65 seconds) and 13th in the long jump (5.83 meters).
In addition to the multi-event action, the men's pole vault competition was also held on Friday night. UR's
Cody Reeth finished fourth overall among 22 athletes in the event, clearing 4.60 meters, matching a personal-best. His finish ranked as the highest by a Division III competitior, with Division II Roberts Wesleyan taking in the top-3 finishing spots.
The seven-event heptathlon wraps up on Saturday afternoon, with the rest of the track and field events also being contested to complete the overall meet competition.
