Men’s Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Geneseo

GENESEO, NY - The University of Rochester men's track and field team opened its outdoor season on Saturday, competing at the Bill Q Invitational at SUNY Geneseo.
 
The meet, originally scheduled to be hosted by RIT, was shifted around and ended up further south at Geneseo due to better weather than in the Rochester area.
 
Senior thrower Jordan Johnson kept his strong final season with Rochester going, leading the Yellowjackets in action on Saturday. Johnson captured first place in the hammer throw, with a toss of 55.43 meters, an All-Atlantic Regional qualifying mark and current #5 throw in Division III.
 
Johnson added a runner-up finish in the discus with a 44.94 meter mark, another regional qualifier, and was also third in the javelin at 48.97 meters. Johnson's discus throw is top-30 on the D3 performance list in the early part of the outdoor season.
 
UR ended up with 12 total top-3 results on the day, including four wins.
 
Senior sprinter P.J. London was a double-winner, winning both the 100 meters and 200 meters. London's time in the 100 was 11.28 seconds, while he clocked in at 22.62 seconds in the longer distance.
 
The final win came from jump Aadit Jain in the high jump. Jain cleared 1.85 meters to earn the victory, with teammate Tate Finger securing second with a 1.75 meter height.
 
UR saw a lot of success in the field events, with Manny Eribo (12.34 meters) and Oliver Annon (6.15 meters) ending in second place in the triple jump and long jump, respectively. Also in the long jump, Austin Lansey was third (6.02 meters), with Kyle Kelsey following in fourth (5.83 meters).
 
The 'Jacket throwers turned in several top-8 finishes. Besides Johnson, Ethan Beer wrapped up the discus in third, with Kevin Fobare in fourth and Dylan Rykert seventh. Beer's mark was 43.97 meters, to rank inside the Division III top-40. Fobare finished at 38.61 meters and Rykert tossed 37.42 meters.
 
During the hammer throw, Armaan Butler ended fourth (47.98 meters), Zajans Crapo was fifth (45.89 meters) and Fobare wrapped up the competition in eighth (44.01 meters). Crapo also placed fourth in the javelin with a 46.96 meter mark, finishing one spot ahead of teammate Emmett Hansen who posted a distance of 45.89 meters.
 
London's win in the 100 meters led a group of five individuals from Rochester in the top-10. Eribo finished sixth, Greg Palma was eighth, Evan Bryant was ninth and Diego De Los Santos sprinted to tenth place. All ended with sub 12-second times in the race. Palma also had a nice result in the 200 meters, ranking third, crossing the finish in 23.00 seconds.
 
Elijah VanHoover finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles, running a time of 17.38 seconds.
 
Next weekend, Rochester will be splitting its squad, sending some individuals to the William & Mary Colonial Relays in Virginia, with the rest of the team heading back to Geneseo for the SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invitational.
