Thyne, Yalamanchili Pace ‘Jackets on Day One of Regionals

ITHACA, NY – University of Rochester men's track and field's Gabe Thyne sits atop the heptathlon standings, while Vishal Yalamanchili was the lone Yellowjacket to score on day one of the 2024-25 All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championships (AARTFC), hosted by Ithaca College, inside Glazer Arena.
 
Yalamanchili earned Rochester's top finish of the opening evening with a third-place result in the 5,000 meters, clocking in at 15:04.53. The senior sat in eighth for much of the first 3000 meters, before making his move up to fourth and eventually third between the 3200-meter and 4200-meter marks.
 
Thyne leads the 12-person heptathlon field through four events, with fellow Yellowjacket Emmett Hansen in seventh place. Thyne sits in first with 2,622 points, 22 points head of Susquehanna's Rowan Smith in second, while Hansen is 139 points shy of Thyne in seventh with 2,483 points.
 
Thyne finished in the top four of all four of day one's events, earning his top finish in the 60 meters (2nd, 7.31), while taking third in the long jump (6.44m) and fourth in both the shot put (10.56m) and high jump (1.82m).
 
Hansen's best finish came in the long jump with a fourth-place finish and 6.39m leap, a season-long, while the first-year added a seventh-place result in the shot put with a 10.05m toss, and notched two season's-best marks and eighth-place tallies in the 60 meters (7.38) and high jump (1.73m).
 
In day one's field events, Cody Reeth earned UR's top result, tying for 10th place in the pole vault with a 4.46m height. In the long jump, Manny Eribo took home 14th place with a 6.48m leap, while both Jordan Johnson and Ethan Beer earned top-20 results in the shot put, with Johnson's 14.33m toss good for 14th, while Beer finished 17th with a 14.17m throw.
 
Ronan Martson got the Yellowjackets' day on the track started with the 60-meter prelims, finishing 24th overall with a time of 7.09 seconds.
 
With six of 18 events complete, the Yellowjackets as a team are tied for 15th place with six points, with SUNY Geneseo leading the 53-team field, 25 of which have scored so far, with 32 points, while Rowan and York (PA) are tied for second with 20 points.
 
Rochester is back on the track for the final day of the All-Atlantic Region Championships on Saturday, March 8 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
