‘Jackets Score Two Regional Titles, 4th-Place Finish at AARTFCs

ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester men's track and field team wrapped up a banner, second day at the 2024-25 All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championships (AARTFC), hosted by Ithaca College inside Glazer Arena, with a pair of regional titles, two school records and a fourth-place team finish among the 37 scoring squads.
 
Sean Hendricks started Rochester's day out with a bang, notching a facility record and new PR in the mile with a time of 4:10.48, good for the top spot in the event and currently the 17th-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. Hendricks was joined in the event by Liam Sakakeeny, who placed 13th, crossing the finish line in 4:24.56.
 
Rochester would add its second regional title in the heptathlon, where Gabe Thyne and Emmett Hansen took the top-two spots in the event. Thyne finished first with 4,772 points, while Hansen took second with a new personal-best score of 4,661 points, the 35th-best tally in Division III this season.
 
In day two's heptathlon events, the 60-meter hurdles, the 1,000 meters and the pole vault, Thyne took first in the hurdles (8.666), second in the 1,000 meters (2:47.17) and seventh in the pole vault, notching a new personal-best height of 3.70m, while Hansen set season-best marks in both the 60-meter hurdles (8th, 9.166) and pole vault (T-4th, 4.30m), while notching his best finish in the 1,000 meters (3rd, 2:49.86).
 
UR also saw another school record fall on day two, as Jordan Johnson broke the weight throw record for the third time this season, this time breaking his previous-high mark by 0.21 meters with 18.91m toss, good for second in the event and the 10th-best weight throw in DIII this season.
 
Austin Lansey also scored for UR in the triple jump, placing eighth with a 13.84m leap, while Sam Lorenzetti finished 15th with a 13.61m jump.

Rounding out the day's field events, Aadit Jain tied for seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.93m.
 
In the 800 meters, UR had three top-25 finishers, led by Skye Crocker's 11th-place finish and 1:56.76 time, while Brendan McCollum finished 19th (1:58.57), and Jacob Bernd placed 24th (2:01.89).
 
Mitch Lienert was Rochester's top finisher in the 200 meters, scoring with a fifth-place finish and 22.04-second time, while P.J. London took home a 22nd-place result and 22.73-second time.
 
London and Lienert, along with Ronan Marston and Greg Palma, finished up the Yellowjackets day on the track with the 4x200-meter relay, setting a new school record by nearly a full second with their 1:28.64 time, good for second in the event. The quartet broke the previous record of 1:29.53 that had stood since 2015, set by Jeff Hrebenach, Wesley Clayton, Max Sims and Brant Crouse.
 
Select Yellowjackets will next compete at the 2024-25 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Nazareth College at the Golisano Training Center in Pittsford, NY, with the field to be announced on Sunday, March 9 and the competition beginning on Friday, March 14.
