SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The University of Rochester rowing team returned to action on Saturday at the New York State Collegiate Championships along Fish Creek, entering four boats into the competition that featured many schools from across the state, representing NCAA Division I and Division III.
Rochester's best finishes of the day came in its final two events, the pair and novice 4+ entries. UR's pair, consisting of
Jinx Allison and
Ava Prevey-Sullivan finished third among the five boats in that event, clocking in at 9:18.190 over the course on Fish Creek.
The novice 4+ boat closed out the days racing for the UR squad with a third place result among six teams in that event, crossing the finish line in 9:20.411.
UR also had two varsity eight boats entered into the premier event of the day. During the morning heats, both the V8 and 2V8 competed. The varsity eight boat finished fifth in its heat and was 14th overall in 8:11.640 during the morning racing. UR's second varsity eight also finished fifth in its heat and clocked in at 9:25.176, ending 13th overall.
The varsity eight boat then took to the water later in the day, shaving 30 seconds off its time during the third final of the V8 race, ending in 7:41.140. Rochester's improved time unfortunately did not move the Yellowjackets up the standings, as UR ended in 14th place overall.
Up next, Rochester will compete at the Liberty League Championships which take place in two weeks, on May 2, back at Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs.
