‘Jackets Set Several New PRs at Geneseo Early Season Invite

GENESEO, NY – Competing as a split-squad at both the William & Mary Colonial Relays and the Geneseo Early Season Invitational, the University of Rochester men's track & field notched several new personal bests on Saturday at the Geneseo Track & Field Complex.
 
Diego De Los Santos set a pair of personal bests in the 100 and 200 meters, pacing the Yellowjackets in the 100 meters. De Los Santos came in 25th with a new PR of 11.42 seconds, while in the 200 meters, the sophomore placed 30th with a time of 23.52 seconds.
 
De Los Santos led four Rochester runners in the 100 meters, including Jack Maness, who placed 38th with a new personal-best time of 11.81 seconds, while Kyle Kelsey finished 33rd (11.65s) and Ashton Tokarski came in 39th (11.83s).
 
In the 200 meters, Trevor Whitley was Rochester's top finisher at 23.23 seconds, a new season's-best time, 27th overall, while Arturo Contreras Jr. placed 31st (23.58) and Kelsey came in 37th (23.72).
 
In addition to his finish in the 200 meters, Contreras Jr. was also the 'Jackets' top runner in the 400 meters, where the sophomore crossed the finish line in 53.95 seconds, good for 16th.
 
Joe Berry earned Rochester's top individual finish at Geneseo, placing fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:10.63, while Nolan Goldthwaite came in 10th, clocking in at 10:38.52.
 
Rochester added another top-10 finish in the 1,500 meters, where James Catania crossed the finish line in 4:05.49, good for 10th out of 100 competing runners.
 
In the 800 meters, Andy Freeman and Zach Terrano both placed in the top 40, with Freeman coming in 29th at 2:00.819, while Terrano rounded out the top-40 runners in 40th place at 2:03.309.
 
UR's distance runners wrapped up the Yellowjackets day on the track with the 5,000 meters, taking home four top-40 results. Sam Cohen took UR's top spot with an 11th-place finish and 15:27.44 time, while William Eskenas placed 32nd (16:12.56), Richard Santarosa came in 34th (16:19.56), and Jon Sullo crossed the finish line in 38th (16:29.43).
 
In the field events, Armaan Butler scored Rochester's top finish in the hammer throw on Friday with a sixth-place throw of 50.45m, an All-Atlantic Region Outdoor (AARTFC) qualifier and a new personal best, while Kevin Fobare placed 31st with a 40.47m throw.
 
Fobare was also the 'Jackets top placer in the shot put (25th, 11.51m) and discus (27th, 34.17m), while Tate Finger finished 20th in the high jump with a 1.74m height.
 
In the long jump, Tokarski led a trio of Yellowjackets in the top 30, finishing 11th (6.06m), with R.J. Cui (27th, 5.65m) and Maness (30th, 5.53) rounding out UR's top-three competitors in the event.
 
Rochester next hosts the Rochester Spring Twilight, beginning on Thursday, April 10 at 3:00 p.m. inside Edwin Fauver Stadium.
