Men’s Track & Field Scores Top-10 Finish at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – Against a field of mostly NCAA Division I and II competition, the University of Rochester men's track & field team finished ninth out of 33 scoring teams at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary, on Saturday at Zabel Stadium.
 
Jordan Johnson led the Yellowjackets on the third and final day of competition in Willamsburg, notching Rochester's lone event win in the discus. Johnson won the event with a 47.31m throw, an All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships (AARTFC) qualifier, a new personal best, and the 18th-best discus toss so far in NCAA Division III this season.
 
Ethan Beer joined Johnson in placing in the discus, taking eighth with a 44.36m throw, a new PR and AARTFC qualifier, while Dylan Rykert placed 22nd with a 36.84m toss.
 
Johnson and Rykert also turned in top-20 results for the Yellowjackets in the shot put, with Johnson notching another regional qualifier with his 15.15m throw, currently ranked 27th on the Division III Outdoor Qualifying List, while Rykert's 12.33m shot put was good for 20th.
 
Rochester added two more marks on the Outdoor Qualifying List in the other two field events on the day, as Cody Reeth placed ninth in the pole vault with a height of 4.48m, while Austin Lansey finished 13th in the triple jump with a 13.63m leap.
 
Both Reeth's height and Lansey's jump hit their respective AARTFC marks, with Reeth's height ranking 50th in Division III so far this season, while Lansey's leap ranks 44th.
 
On the track, the 'Jackets ran three relays on the final day of the competition, scoring in all three. UR's best performance came in the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay, where Evan Bryant, Gabe Thyne, P.J. London and Jacob Bernd combined to break the school record with a time of 3:29.01, good for a fifth-place finish.
 
The Yellowjackets' 4,000-meter distance medley relay also earned a fifth-place finish, with Brendan McCollum, Skye Crocker, Colin Hascup and Sean Hendricks running the 4,000 meters in 10:33.58.
 
While in the 4x100-meter relay, Manny Eribo, Bryant, Will Stiska and London notched the Yellowjackets' sixth regional qualifier of the day with a seventh-place result, crossing the finish line in 42.92 seconds.
 
Rochester finished the three-day relays with 32 points, good for ninth out of 33 scoring teams, the highest NCAA Division III finisher. Bucknell took home the men's team title with 139.5 points, with Shippensburg (113.5 points) and William & Mary (93 points) rounding out the top three.
 
The Yellowjackets next host the Rochester Spring Twilight, beginning on Thursday, April 10 at 3:00 p.m. inside Edwin Fauver Stadium.
