Bell Selected as USTFCCCA National Track Athlete of the Week

4/7/2025 4:02:00 PM

University of Rochester senior Megan Bell was recognized nationally by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the Division III Athlete of the Week following her performance last weekend at the William & Mary Colonial Relays.

Bell had a record-breaking performance over the weekend meet, finishing runner-up in a pair of events, while establishing two #1 times in Division III so far this outdoor season.

She first ran the 400 meters on Friday afternoon and sprinted to a personal-best time of 54.77 seconds, hitting the top Division III outdoor time so far in 2025 by over half a second.

The next day, Bell opened by running on Rochester's fourth place sprint medley relay squad which established a new school-record time of 4:06.69, a time which now is #6 in the Division III all-time record book outdoors.

Bell capped her stellar weekend by ending in second place in the 800 meters with a huge personal-best time of 2:05.34, breaking her own outdoor school record by nearly four seconds. The finish ranks Bell #6 in Division III history currently and easily established a new Liberty League Association record.

Rochester as a team ended sixth of 30 teams that scored a point at the mainly Division I William & Mary meet, with Bell proving to be a key catalyst in scoring across three events. Her finishes in the 400 meters, 800 meters and sprint medley relay were all best among the Division III individuals or teams in those respective events.

Earlier on Monday, Bell also was selected as the Women's Track Performer of the Week within the Liberty League.

Bell becomes the second individual from Rochester women's track and field to be recognized as Division III National Athlete of the Week, joining Madeline O'Connell who was picked on April 12, 2022 following a triple-win performance at the Rochester Spring Classic.

National Athlete of the Week is an award selected and presented by the USTFCCCA Communications Staff at the beginning of each week to honor 12 collegiate track & field athletes, when applicable (male and female for each of the three NCAA divisions and the NJCAA).
