A banner year on the course for the University of Rochester golf team led to a major haul of awards in the end-of-season conference voting within the Liberty League, with the Yellowjackets sweeping the major awards while earning five other All-League honors, as announced on Thursday morning.
 
Sophomore Shibo Wang was recognized as the Liberty League Player of the Year, while first-year teammate Luke Evans was honored as the conference Rookie of the Year. Head Coach Dan Wesley and assistant coaches Ben Harmon and George W. VanderZwaag were awarded conference Coaching Staff of the Year accolades.
 
Both Wang and Evans earned First Team All-League recognition, along with sophomore Arjun Aujla, while first-year's Alvin Su and Eddie Ren each snagged a spot on the All-Liberty League Second Team. This season is the first time since the 2010-11 season in which Rochester had the entirety of its starting five golfers secure either First or Second Team All-Conference praise.
 
Wang becomes the eighth Liberty League Player of the Year in team history, Evans' Rookie of the Year award is UR's sixth and the Coaching Staff of the Year honor is the fourth in team history.
 
Coaching Staff of the Year:
Dan Wesley, Ben Harmon, George W. VanderZwaag – 4th All-League honor (2014 COY, 2017 COY, 2024 COY); This season, Rochester secured its second straight Liberty League team title, shooting a 45-hole score of 711 to win by 19 shots over second place Rensselaer. UR's conference win was one of five top-3 team results so far in 2024-25, with the Yellowjackets set to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships next week. The Yellowjackets are the top team in Region II and were ranked for multiple weeks inside the Division III top-25 coaches poll and Scoreboard/Clippd rankings and are on pace to smash the team record for scoring average in a season, currently averaging 291.5 strokes per round.
 
Player of the Year/1st Team:
Shibo Wang (SO, Tianjin, China/Fayao School) – 2nd All-League honor (2024 HM); Wang was a regular in UR's starting lineup all season, finishing with a 73.08 scoring average across 19.5 rounds. He finished as event medalist at the Farmingdale Spring Invite and was tenth at Golfweek October Classic, which was one of the best tournament fields of the season. The sophomore added an 11th place result at the Northeast Elite Invite and was 12th at the Liberty League Tournament and wrapped up the Jekyll Island Invitational finishing 22nd of 150 golfers. He had eight rounds at or below par, and accumulated a .751 winning percentage on the year (438-280) across eight tournaments. Two-time Liberty League Performer of the Week in 2024-25. Scoreboard/Clippd individual ranking of #80 in Division III and #1 in the region.
 
Rookie of the Year/1st Team:
Luke Evans (FY, Southlake, TX/Southlake Carroll) – 1st All-League honor; The highlight of Evans' rookie season so far was claiming medalist honors at the Liberty League Tournament, helping UR to the team title. He averaged 73.38 strokes per round, competing in every event for Rochester. Finished fifth at the Farmingdale Spring Invite and was top-15 at both the Northeast Elite Invite and Fred Kravetz Invite. The first-year tied for team-lead with 10 rounds at/below par, led by a season-best 67 at the Farmingdale Spring Invite. He received Liberty League Player of the Week honors on April 28 and was a two-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week this season.
                                                                                                                                                                
1st Team:
Arjun Aujla (SO, Greenbrae, CA/Redwood) – 1st All-League honor; Aujla competed in five events for Rochester and ended with a 73.48 scoring average across 11.5 rounds this season. The sophomore broke into the lineup during the spring season and finished in the top-25 in every event he competed in, including finishing second at the Jekyll Island Individual Invitational and sixth at the Liberty League Championship. Combined to have four runs at/below par, including firing a 3-under round of 69 during the final round at the conference tournament. Overall, Aujla compiled a team-best .806 win-loss percentage this season, entering NCAA's.
 
2nd Team:
Eddie Ren (FY, Thousand Oaks, CA/Oaks Christian) – 1st All-League honor; Ren competed in eight events for the Yellowjackets as a first-year, compiling a scoring average of 74.79 across 16.5 stroke play rounds. Additionally, Ren helped the Yellowjackets to a runner-up finish at the UAA Match Play Championship in the fall and was named to the All-Tournament Team at that event. Ren was tournament medalist at the Hampden-Sydney Whispering Pines Invitational in mid-March and secured a top-10 result at the Liberty League Tournament. He recorded a season-low round of 70 (2-under), one of five at/below par in 2024-25.
 
Alvin Su (FY, Shanghai, China/Shanghai United International School) – 1st All-League honor; Su finished the regular season as Rochester's leading scorer in terms of average, shooting 72.62 strokes per round in 2024-25 (19.5 rounds). The first-year appeared in all nine events for the Yellowjackets and compiled a team-high ten rounds at/below par. Su did not finish any lower than 44th in a single tournament this year and finished with a pair of top-5 results, ending third at the Liberty League Tournament and fourth at the Fred Kravetz Invitational.
