Thyne’s Decathlon Win Highlights UR’s Day Two at AARTFC Meet

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – University of Rochester men's track senior Gabe Thyne won the All-Atlantic Regional title in the decathlon to help the Yellowjackets to a fourth-place result on the final day of the 2025 All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Williams College at the Weston Athletic Complex.
 
Thyne entered the day second in the 10-event competition and set new personal-bests in four of the five events on day two to take home first place in the decathlon. Thyne finished first with a new PR of 6,512 points, the 14th-best decathlon score in NCAA Division III this season. The senior wrapped up day two with a first-place finish in the 1,500 meters, clocking in at 4:27.00, and added a second-place finish in the discus (33.60m) and a third-place result in the 110-meter hurdles (15.85).
 
All three marks were new personal bests for Thyne, as was his 3.85m height in the pole vault, good for sixth.
 
Rochester also had the sixth and eighth-place finishers in the decathlon, with Ashton Tokarski placing fifth with 5,649 points, and Jack Manness coming in eighth with 5,541 points, new PRs for both competitors.
 
Tokarski set personal-bests in four of the five day-two events, earning his top finish in the 1,500 meters, 4:51.56, while Maness also set a new personal-best time in the 1,500 meters, clocking in at 4:58.79, good for seventh. Tokarski also added seventh-place results in the discus (28.26m) and pole vault (3.65m), while Maness finished fourth in the javelin (39.49m) and tied for fourth in the pole vault (4.15m).
 
The Yellowjackets also earned points on day two in a pair of field events, with Jordan Johnson leading four 'Jackets in the hammer throw. Johnson finished second in the hammer with a 57.16m throw, while Zajans Crapo (18th, 49.85m) and Armaan Butler (19th, 49.44m) joined Johnson in the top 20, with Kevin Fobare placing 21st (47.99m).
 
In the triple jump, Austin Lansey earned points with a sixth-place finish and 14.11m, while Sam Lorenzetti finished just outside the top eight in ninth, leaping 13.96m.
 
On the track, Jacob Bernd, Liam Sakakeeny and Sean Hendricks got Rochester's day started with the 1,500 meters, with Bernd scoring UR's top result. Bernd placed 11th, clocking in with a season-best time of 3:56.46, while Sakakeeny took 15th, crossing the finish line in 3:59.22, and Hendricks too 25th with a time of 4:07.20.
 
Next up in the 800 meters, Brendan McCollum set a new personal-best time of 1:54.47, good for 11th in the 36-person field. UR then saw two first-years, Owen Hatungimana and Greg Palma, earn top-20 finishes in the 400-meter hurdles, with Hatungimana notching a season-best time with his 14th-place result and 55.15-second time, while Palma placed 17th with a time of 55.93 seconds.
 
P.J. London then wrapped up the Yellowjackets day on the track with a 16th-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking in at 22.16 seconds.
 
As a team, the Yellowjackets finished the two-day regional championships, with 42 points, good for fourth place, and one point ahead of fifth-place finisher Penn St. Behrend.
 
Susquehanna took home the top spot in the meet with 72 points, while Cortland (60 points) and SUNY Geneseo (46 points) rounded out the top-three teams.
 
Select Yellowjackets will next compete at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, running Thursday, May 22 through Saturday, May 24 at The Spire Institute in Geneva, OH.
