Horng, Blau lead UR Women at Tom Balon Classic

BROCKPORT, NY – The University of Rochester women's cross country team took third place in a closely-contested race at the Tom Balon Alumni Classic, hosted by SUNY Brockport, on Saturday at Sweden Town Park.
 
The Yellowjackets compiled 74 points, two shy of second-place RIT, and just nine shy of SUNY Brockport, who took home the team title with 65 points in the eight-team field.
 
Alyssa Horng was UR's top finisher, finishing fifth with a time of 19:26.7, while Ella Blau joined Horng in the top 10, placing eighth with a time of 19:34.7.
 
Riley Joseph finished just outside the top 10 in 11th place, clocking in at 19:47.9, while Emily Dill added another top-20 result with her 18th-place finish and time of 20:05.5.
 
Ariane Yedidia rounded out the Yellowjackets' top-five runners, crossing the finish line in 32nd place with a time of 20:33.4, while Adriana Ochoa (38th, 20:46.9) and Sam Mermelstein (42nd, 20:54.8) were UR's displacers in the 104-runner field.
 
Peyton Classer also added a top-50 finish for UR, crossing the finish line in 20:56.5, good for 43rd.
 
Individually, Kerry Flower of the Brockport Alumni squad took home first place with a time of 18:19.3, while RIT's Kathryn Arbegast finished second, and the Golden Eagles' Ethne Degan placed third.
 
URochester is back in action next Saturday, Sept. 20, when it hosts the Yellowjacket Invitational at 10:00 a.m. at Genesee Valley Park.
