HENRIETTA, NY –
Max McClung and
Matthew Spence were double-winners for the Yellowjackets, but the University of Rochester men's swimming & diving team fell to the RIT Tigers, 190-109, on Saturday afternoon at Judson Pool in its first meet of the 2026 portion of the campaign.
McClung topped the podium in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke, while Spence took first in both the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle. McClung clocked in at 51.07 seconds in the 100 butterfly and 52.17 seconds in the 100 backstroke, with
Sebastian Gans joining the senior on the podium with a third-place result and 54.89-second time.
McClung also swam the 50-yard butterfly and earned the 'Jackets' top result, coming in second place with a time of 23.66 seconds.
Spence won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:05.59 and touched the wall first in 4:55.69 in the 500 freestyle.
Nate Attwell notched the Yellowjackets' final event win of the afternoon, topping the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.08. In total, Rochester won five events and tallied 16 top-three finishes.
URochester kicked off the dual meet with the 200-yard freestyle relay that saw Gans,
Max Gjevre,
Jayden Proctor and
Ben Friedberg finish second with a time of 1:38.80. Gans then paced the 'Jackets in the 50-yard backstroke, taking second with a time of 25.46 seconds, while
Venden Berge placed third, clocking in at 25.56 seconds.
Gjevre was Rochester's top swimmer in the 50-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 28.41-seconds, good for fourth, and added another fourth-place result in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:02.15.
Friedberg added to UR's top-three tally with a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (22.20), while Attwell came in third in the 100-yard freestyle (49.78).
Max Wozinski was the Yellowjackets' top finisher in both diving events, taking second in both the one-meter and three-meter dive, with scores of 225.45 and 210.15, respectively.
Patrick Li wrapped up the day's individual events with a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM, clocking in at 2:04.18, while Gans, Attwell, McClung and Friedberg came in third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.38 in the final event of the dual.
Rochester, now 3-4 on the year, will wrap up its dual-meet slate with its Senior Day meet against Ithaca College on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1:00 p.m. inside the Speegle-Wilbraham Center.
