Rochester Places Second at Ithaca Tri-Meet

ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester women's track and field team competed in a rare tri-meet, taking second place at Saturday's Ithaca College Tri-Meet at Glazer Arena.
 
Rochester finished with 85 team points in the meet featuring host Ithaca and SUNY Brockport. The winning Bombers ended with 124 points, while Brockport placed third with 79 points over the days events.
 
The Yellowjackets ended with 14 top-3 results on Saturday and had seven All-Atlantic Region qualifying performances.
 
Eva Ciuffetelli and Emily Dill were double-winners for the Yellowjackets, pairing together with Rita Sciortino and Jordan Smith to win the 4x400 meter relay while also securing individual event wins. The relay placed first in 4:05.94, an AARTFC time.
 
Ciuffetelli was first in the 400 meters, running a regional time of 59.47 seconds, with Dill also hitting the regional standard in the mile, with a 5:16.48 time.
 
In 400 meters and mile, URochester also had the runner-up. Raquella Casserino ended second in the 400 meters in 1:00.09 (AARTFC) and Sciortino was runner-up in the mile (5:17.61), also a regional qualifier. Also during the mile, the Yellowjackets had a third place runner in Alyssa Horng (5:21.80, PR).
 
The Yellowjackets also got a win in the field from Madison Vargas in the weight throw. Vargas tossed 16.52 meters, hitting a regional qualifier and new personal best, while also ranking #22 on the Division III performance list this season. Vargas added a third place result in the shot put, posting a mark of 11.76 meters.
 
Elsewhere on Saturday, graduate student Molly FitzGibbons placed first in the 3000 meters at the Utica Blue and Orange Meet. FitzGibbons' time was 9:57.61, the #25 time in Division III this season and was good enough to be a regional qualifier.
 
During the 200 meters at Ithaca, Lizzie Merrill placed second in an indoor personal-best 26.78 seconds, while Smith finished right behind in 26.86 seconds, securing third place.
 
URochester's 'B' relay of Merrill, Peyton Classer, Isabella Doty and Maria Khalifeh in the 4x400 ended in second place with a time of 4:18.74. Classer also added an indoor PR in the 800 meters, finishing third in 2:26.82.
 
In the long jump, two Yellowjackets were in the top-4 finishers. Ashleigh Barrett was second in 5.26 meters, while Grace McInerney was fourth at 5.12 meters.
 
Katie Atkins secured two new personal-bests in two events on Saturday, running to a fifth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.91 seconds. Atkins also cleared 3.18 meters in the pole vault. Teammate Nora Dreslin also notched a personal record in the high jump, ending fifth with a 1.49 meter clearance.
 
Next weekend, the Yellowjackets split their squad and head to two meets, with some athletes competing at the Nazareth D3 Elite Meet and others heading to the NYU D3 Invitational.
