The men's tennis team lost its spring opener, 5-2, to the University of Buffalo in the Goergen Athletic Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Dan Williford and Michael Lee earned straight set victories for the Yellowjackets. Williford won, 6-2, 6-2 at #2 singles over Mike Rockman. Lee posted a 7-5, 6-4 win at #6 singles over Albert Alant.
Avinash Reddy and Colin Ryan lost in three at #1 and #4 singles respectively. Reddy was beaten by UB's Nick Zieziula, 5-7, 6-4, 2-6. Ryn lost to Rangga Prayudha, 2-6, 6-0, 5-7.
At third singles, Partha Bhattacharya lost to Josh Lieberman, 1-6, 1-6.
Eric Prince lost in a tiebreaker at #5 singles, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 0-1 (8-10) to Yules Hadisubroto.
In doubles play, Buffalo took the matches at #1 and #3 to secure the doubles point. Bhattacharya and Reddy won, 8-6, at #2, defeating Hadisubroto and Alant.
Ryan and Williford lost, 8-6, to Zieziula and Ivan Chamdani at #1. Prince and Josh Bruce-Black lost, 8-2, to Liederman and Prayudha.
Rochester is idle until March 7 when the Yellowjackets open their spring trip to the West Coast. The Yellowjackets will play twice on the 7th, both matches at Cal-Santa Cruz. Rochester plays Pomona Pitzer at Noon (PST), followed by host Santa Cruz at 3 pm.
The Yellowjackets also play at Sonoma State on March 9.
Rochester's next home match is set for Sunday, March 21, vs. Drew University at 10 am.
