The men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches over the weekend, falling to Brandeis, 5-0, and to Case, 7-0.
With winds on Saturday and rains on Sunday, the action was all played indoors at the Goergen Center Courts. Most matches were played to decision.
In the Brandeis match, Cam Jonas defeated Mike Burger, 6-1, 6-4, at #1 singles. Jordan Bieber defeated Jason Maher at #3, 6-0, 6-0. The second singles match between Brian Bowman and Adam Sher was halted in the second set. Sher won the opener, 6-1, and Bowman was ahead, 4-3, in the second.
Cliff Silverman of Braneis defeated Mike Shepheard, 6-0, in the first set of #4 before play stopped. Adam Crosby of Rochester and Adam Ciminello of Brandeis split at #5, Crosby winning the first set, 6-4, and Ciminello coming back 6-2 in the second. Rochester's Tyler Socash and Atul Soni never began sixth singles.
In doubles, Burger and Bowman lopst, 8-3, to Jonas and Vulfovich. Shepheard and Maher lost, 8-1, to Sher and Bieber at #2. Crosby and Michael Kornhauser lost to Soni and Scott Schulman, 8-0, at #3.
Against Case on Sunday, Burger lost at #1, 6-0, 6-1 to Joe Smetona. Bowman lost, 6-1, 6-2, at #2 to Ben Sinder. Allen Ye of Case won the first set at #3, 6-1 over Maher and was ahead, 5-0, in the second when play stopped. Mike Peterson defeated Crosby, 6-0, 6-2 at #5, and Kenneth Nguyen defeated Kornhauser, 6-0, 6-0 at #6. The fourth singles match between Shepheard and John Smetona never started.
In doubles, the Smetonas defeated Burger and Bowman, 8-1, at #1. Sinder and Ye defeated Shepheard and Crosby, 8-2, at #2. Maher and Socash lost to Peterson and Adam Erickson, 8-1, at #3.
