The University of Rochester men's tennis team was very successful during a Spring Break trip to Orlando, Florida. The men won 4 out of 6 matches, losing only to Division II Bentley and Division III Wesleyan.
In doubles, the men won 13 out of 18 games. Against St. Francis, Ursinus, and Oxford-Emory, UR won every doubles game played. UR's Brian Bowman-Bennett Peterson team won all but one of their 6 doubles games, losing to Wesleyan's O'Connell/ Rizui 8-5. Dan Barbash lost only one of his 7 games, 6 of which were doubles games. Freshman Matt Volkov won 3 doubles matches, all with partner Patrick Sheehan.
In first singles, Bowman won all but one of his 6 games, falling to Wesleyan's O'Connell. Freshman Brian Schmeer also had an impressive week, winning every one of his 5 singles games. With Barbash, Schmeer also won all but one of his 5 doubles games. Jeff Zink went 4-2 in singles, rebounding from two losses against Bentley and St. Francis on March 9th.
Against Division 3 Ursinus, UR won every game. In singles, Sheehan won 6-0, 6-0, Bowman won 6-2, 6-0, Peterson won 6-1, 6-3, and Jeff Zink won 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Alex Magill won his doubles match with partner Barbash, and the next day went on to win his singles match against Oxford-Emory 6-0, 6-4.
