ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL- Brandeis University upended the University of Rochester 6-3 to capture 7th place at the 2013 UAA Men's Tennis Championship on Sunday morning.
Rochester (13-11) had some impressive wins on the day, but couldn't top the Judges who finish the year with an 8-12 record.
Brandeis, regionally ranked #11 won two of three doubles matches to get the scoring started. They won at #1 doubles when the regionally ranked (#4) duo of Steven Milo and Josh Jordan defeated
Boris Borovcanin and
Julian Danko 8-4. The other Judges point came at #2 doubles when UR's team of Matt Levine and
Ben Shapiro was forced to retire while down 4-0.
Rochester, ranked #17 regionally, got its doubles point at #3 where freshman
Ian Baranowski and
Joel Allen won 8-6.
In singles, Borovcanin and Danko would exact some revenge on their doubles opponents with the UR combo winning both matches at the #1 and #2 positions. Borovcanin's win at #1 was 6-2, 6-2 over Milo who was ranked as the #6 singles player in the Northeast region.
Danko would best Jordan at #2 by a 6-3, 6-3 score. The Judges would capture the rest of the matches, positions 3 through 6, in straight sets to reach the 6-3 final margin.
