'Jackets Finish Calif. Trip With 6-3 Win Over Biola

LA MIRADA, CA - Just like the women's team the night before, the University of Rochester men's tennis team closed out its California spring break trip with a 6-3 victory over NAIA Biola University on Friday evening.
 
The Yellowjackets (4-6) took two of three matches in doubles play and then won four straight set singles matches to earn the victory.  Biola drops to 5-7 on the season.
 
Rochester had three double-winners on Friday Ian Baranowski, Aaron Mevorach and Sam Leeman each earned multiple wins.  Mevorach was a double-winner for the second straight day as he won both his matches on Thursday versus Azusa Pacific University.
 
Baranowski and Mevorach teamed together at 2nd doubles to win 8-5 over the Eagles' Luke Moutain and Phillip Westwood to start the match.  Biola's pair is ranked 25th nationally in the NAIA.
 
Leeman then paired with Jonny Baker to win 8-6 at 3rd doubles giving UR a 2-0 lead.  That duo defeated David Garcia and Joe Turnquist.  Closing out doubles play, UR's Julian Danko and Ben Shapiro lost to Tayven Townsend and Brandon Chang 8-6 in the #1 position.
 
In singles, Rochester won its first three matches to clinch the match.  Leeman breezed past Turnquist 6-1, 6-1 at #5 while Danko was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Mountain at #4.  Mevorach earned the clinching point at #6, defeating Garcia 6-3, 6-3.
 
Baranowski earned the Yellowjackets last point, winning at #3 6-2, 6-1 over Chang.  Biola's points came at #1 and #2 when Townsend topped Shapiro 1-6, 7-6 (2), 10-7 and Westwood defeated Baker 6-2, 7-5 respectively.
 
When Rochester returns home, its next match is slated for March 26th at Nazareth College.
