UR Men Drop 6-3 Decision to Brandeis at UAA's

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – The University of Rochester men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to 29th ranked Brandeis University in the consolation round of the 2015 UAA Championships on Saturday afternoon at Sanlando Park.
 
Rochester moves to 8-10 with the loss while the Judges improve to 9-10 on the season.  On Sunday, UR will face NYU for 7th place in the UAA Tournament while Brandeis gets Case Western Reserve in the 5th place contest.

Baker was UR's lone double-winner Saturday.

The Judges were able to grab an early 2-1 lead after doubles play.  The team of Jeff Cherkin and Michael Arguello would open the match with an 8-2 win over UR's Sam Leeman and Julian Danko in the #2 spot.  UR's Jonny Baker and Ben Shapiro teamed together at #3 for an 8-3 win over Michael Secular and Alex Siegel to even the match.  Brandeis' Brian Granoff and Danny Lubarsky would close doubles with an 8-4 victory over Ian Baranowski and Aaron Mevorach in the #1 spot.
 
In singles, Arguello would top Shapiro 6-1, 6-3 at #2, Ryan Bunis would defeat Danko 7-6 (5), 6-1 at #4 and Granoff won 6-3, 6-4 over Baranowski at #1 to quickly seal the match.  Cherkin would earn Brandeis' fifth straight point with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win at #6 over Leeman.
 
Closing out the match, Rochester's Mevorach would win in three over Eric Miller at the 5th position.  After winning the first set 6-4, Mevorach dropped the second 4-6 before closing out the win with a 10-7 super tiebreaker win in the third set.
 
A day after earning UR's lone point the quarterfinals against Wash U, UR's Baker would be the only Yellowjacket double-winner on Saturday, closing the match with a 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 win at #3 over Siegel.
 
Sunday's final round of matches are slated to begin at 9 am, with UR facing NYU and Brandeis getting Case.  Washington and Emory each won their first two rounds and will meet in the championship match.
