Box ScoreWALTHAM, MA – Despite winning two of three doubles matches, the University of Rochester men's tennis team couldn't hang on and dropped a 7-2 decision to #28 Brandeis University on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellowjackets (3-7) got off to a quick start with wins from their 2nd and 3rd doubles teams. UR's Masaru Fujimaki and Aaron Mevorach topped Brandeis' Brian Granoff and Danny Lubarsky 8-5 at #2 while Ben Shapiro and Andrew Nunno topped Ryan Bunis and Tyler Ng 9-7 at the #3 spot. To close out doubles, the Judges (3-3) got a win at #1 from Jeff Cherkin and Michael Arguello by an 8-6 score over UR's Ian Baranowski and Sam Leeman.

Host Brandeis then was able to sweep through the six singles matches to rally past UR.

Five of the six matches went straight sets with the lone three-setter going at #6 between Nunno and Zach Cihlar. Nunno won the first set 6-1 but then saw Cihlar win 7-6 (2) and 6-3 in the final two sets to earn the victory.

Fujimaki took Bunis to a second set tiebreak but fell 6-1, 7-6 (5) at #1 while #31 ranked individual Brian Granoff topped Shapiro 6-3, 6-1 at #2.

Arguello earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Baranowski at #3, Ng topped Mevorach 6-0, 6-2 at #4 and Lubarsky was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at #5 over Rochester's Leeman.

The Yellowjackets return home and will play their next match on Thursday at home against Nazareth College starting at 4 pm.
