Day 1 Results
CLINTON, NY – The University of Rochester tennis teams both competed on day one Saturday at the Hamilton College Invitational, resulting in some solid results in the four-team round-robin competition.
The format for the event features four teams, Rochester, Hamilton, Ithaca and Union each competing against one another in either all doubles or all singles matches during each session, with no team match scoring officially taking place.
Rochester's men on day one were matched up against Ithaca in doubles, Hamilton in doubles and Union in singles.
UR completed a 4-0 sweep over Ithaca in doubles, with three of the teams posting 8-1 wins or better.
Michael Rudin and
Connor Wagner blanked their opponents 8-0, while
Pasquale Procaccino and
Matt Resnikoff and
Kai Yuminaga and
Peter Huang were each 8-1 winners. The sweep was completed by
Yifan Shen and
Tanmay Thakkar who were victorious by 8-5 scores.
Host Hamilton proved a bigger challenge, winning three of the five matches against the Yellowjackets. Against the Continentals, Rudin and Wanger won 8-4 while Huang and Yuminaga also were winners, scoring an 8-3 triumph.
In singles play against Union, UR won eight of 10 matches playing pro-sets to eight games. Shen and Wagner had the biggest wins with 8-2 victories. Rudin posted an 8-3 win while
Antony Georgiadis earned a 6-4 win.
The rest of the Yellowjackets to earn singles wins were Thakkar (8-5), Yuminaga (8-7), Procaccino (8-5) and Resnikoff (8-7).
