EL CAJON, CA – The University of Rochester men's tennis team kept its strong spring break trip in California rolling, posting a 7-2 victory over Grossmont College on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The match was played on an exhibition basis as Grossmont is a junior college and thus not a countable opponent for NCAA Division III institutions.
 
Singles play started things on the day, and Rochester pulled the victory out after the one-on-one matches, leading 5-1.
 
Tanmay Thakkar picked up the first point for the Yellowjackets, winning 6-1, 6-1 at #4 over James Susman.  Mark Zolotukhin then blanked his opponent, 6-0, 6-0 at #6.  Sahaj Somani then earned another straight set victory, winning 6-4, 6-2 at #5.
 
The Griffins earned their lone singles point at #2, with Lirone Abcassis winning 6-2, 6-2 over Runjia Fang.  But UR responded, taking the last two singles matches to go up 5-1 heading to doubles.  Yifan Shen won 6-4, 6-3 over Pablo Gentile at #3, and Masaru Fujimaki outlasted Diego Messieri at #1 6-1, 5-7 and 10-5.
 
Doubles play saw the Yellowjackets win the top two positions.  At #1, Zolotukhin and Fang won 9-7, with Peter Huang and Matt Resnikoff winning 8-3 at #2.  Grossmont took the third doubles spot, with Gentile and Abcassis winning 8-1 over Uriah Miller and Adrian Zhang.
 
Rochester closes its week with two matches on Thursday, hoping to remain unbeaten on the season.  UR plays Haverford at 9 am Pacific, before taking on Biola University later in the afternoon at 2 pm.
