Day 1 Results
CANTON, NY – Two singles players and one doubles team reached the semifinals of their respective brackets, remaining unbeaten at the season opening St. Lawrence University Fall Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Tanmay Thakkar is into the B singles semifinals, first-year
Kai Yuminaga is playing in the C singles semifinals, while the doubles team of
Sahaj Somani and
Pasquale Procaccino are in the B Doubles semis.
Thakkar was impressive in his two opening round wins. In the first round he won 8-2 over Ithaca's Sam Fried, before winning in the quarters by the same score over Thomas McGuire from Union. Thakkar will play Hobart's Jeremy Atwater in the semifinals on Sunday.
Yuminaga defeated Guy Holbrook from host St. Lawrence in the opening round of C singles play with an 8-1 win. In the next round, he defeated Ithaca's George Lomas 8-3 and will square off with Colin Molloy of Hobart in the semis.
In doubles, the team of Somani and Procaccino were the only UR team to pick up a victory. The pair won 8-4 over a team from Hamilton in the opening round. In the quarterfinals, they topped Leo Bakiri and Jett Wright from Hobart 8-6 and will get another Hobart team in the next round.
The rest of Rochester's doubles squads played in extremely tight opening round matches. Two teams lost by 8-7 scores while the two others fell by 8-6 marks.
