GREENSBORO, NC – The University of Rochester track and field program saw all three of its representatives on the men's team compete in day one action of the Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Track Complex on Thursday afternoon.
UR sophomore
Scott Sikorski earned a spot in the finals on Saturday in his event, the 1500 meters, finishing 12th in the preliminaries on Thursday. Sikorski ran in heat one and finished fifth with a time of 3:53.30.
Sikorski finished fifth in his heat
in the 1500 meters, and will run in the finals.
The top four finishers in each heat automatically qualified for the finals, so Sikorski had to sweat it out, watching heat two to see if his time was fast enough. Heat two was the quicker heat, but Sikorski's time was good enough to steal the final qualifying spot into Saturday's final which will be run at approximately 12:35 pm.
Also competing for Rochester on day one of nationals was senior
Terry Cook who competed in the pole vault. Cook cleared 4.60 meters (15 ft, 1 in) on his second attempt and finished in 12th place among the 17 competitors.
Cook, a reigning All-American indoors from the 2020 season, ends his career as the school record in the pole vault in both indoor and outdoor track and field.
Rochester's third member of the team competing was sophomore
Gabe Lundy in the 400 meter hurdles. Lundy clocked in with a time of 54.54 seconds, finishing 15th in his event and fourth of six in his individual heat.
Lundy's sophomore campaign, his first during the outdoor season, sees him end the year with the top times on Rochester in the 200 meters, 400 meters, 400 meter hurdles and as a part of the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relay squads.
