PITTSFORD, NY – The University of Rochester track and field teams finished off a solid weekend of competition at the Nazareth Conference Challenge Cup on Sunday, sending several individuals to compete in the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon.
On the women's side,
Eileen Bequette was Rochester's lone competitor in the multi-event competition and came away with the victory, scoring ten team points towards the UR total for the two-day meet. Her score of 3,322 points currently ranks #6 in NCAA Division III this season.
Bequette was first in the heptathlon field in the shot put (10.10m) and 800 meters (2:27.06), while also ranking inside the top-5 in the three other events contested on Sunday. She was third in the high jump (1.56m) and fourth in both the 60-meter hurdles (9.76 seconds) and long jump (5.18m).
Her highest scoring event was the hurdles, which added 758 points to her total. Additionally, the 800 meters scorer her over 700 points, with 730.
In the women's team scoring, Rochester finished fourth of 11 teams in the meet, scoring 67 total points. The Liberty League conference earned the cup title, as UR and Ithaca combined for 183 points, placing first of six conferences which were represented.
Bequette's score is currently sixth in Division III.
Rochester's men produced excellent results as well, with five men finishing in the top-8 overall in the pentathlon which spanned the two day meet.
Aeden Angelone finished as runner-up with a score of 4,529 points which ranks #13 in NCAA Division III this season and is the second best score in UR team history. Angelone ranked first in three events overall, coming in the shot put (12.76m), pole vault (3.15m) and 1000 meters (2:51.23). He also was second in the 60-meter hurdles (7.39 seconds) and third in the high jump (1.74m).
Not far behind was
Alex Opsahl who placed third with a score of 4,529 points. Opsahl's point total is also top-20 in the country so far this season, ranking 16th. His score also is the third best in Rochester history.
Opsahl finished first in the heptathlon high jump (1.86m), was second in the long jump (6.55m), shot put (12.57m) and 1000 meters (2:54.64). He ended third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.32 seconds.
Joining UR's top finishers in the top-8 of the event were
Cole Siewert in fifth (3,909 points),
Lucas Thiele in seventh (3,307 points) and
Jarod Forer in eighth (3,182 points). Siewert was fourth among competitors in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.38 seconds. Thiele was third in the high jump with a mark of 1.74 meters and Forer was third best in the shot put (10.68m).
As a team, Rochester finished the meet with 117 points, third best among 11 schools. The Liberty League pairing, including UR and Ithaca ranked second in the conference cup standings, accumulating 176 points. The SUNYAC, with meet winning Geneseo, and second place Cortland were the conference winners with 265 points.
