Yellowjackets Have Four Podium Finishes on Day 2 of Regionals

BETHLEHEM, PA – Twelve athletes from the University of Rochester competed for the Yellowjackets on day two of the All-Atlantic Regional Championships on Thursday afternoon at Moravian College.
 
Rochester came away with scoring performances from four individuals across three events. That scored a total of 15 points for the Yellowjackets. In all, over 50 teams competed in the meet with Rochester placing in the top half of the field.
 
UR had two scorers in the decathlon. Junior Alex Opsahl finished third with a score of 5,799 points. He ranked second among the multi-event performers in the 1500 meters and was fourth in both the 110 meter hurdles and pole vault.
 
Jarod Forer had a strong day two, placing first among the decathletes in the 1500 meters and pole vault while ranking third in the javelin. He ended the 10-event competition with 5,594 points, placing fifth.
 
Additionally, Peter Brodnik scored a sixth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles, running a time of 15.40 seconds. Another hurdler, Gabe Lundy was Rochester's other scorer, timing in at 53.49 seconds in the 400 meter distance. Lundy finished seventh.
 
Sprinter Mitch Lienert just missed the podium in the 200 meters, ending ninth in 21.99 seconds, setting a new personal best to end his sophomore season. Teammate P.J. London was 20th in the same race in 22.69 seconds.
 
Lienert, London, Brodnik and Manny Eribo ended 13th in the 4x100 meter relay as Rochester's entry. The quartet posted a time of 43.10 seconds. Daniel Ford placed 16th in the 800 meters in 1:56.02 as Rochester's final runner on the track.
 
In the field events, senior Ryan Swavely was 13th in the hammer throw 49.96 meters, setting a new UR season-best distance. Nolan Ragland was 22nd in the same event with his toss measuring 45.33 meters.
 
James O'Neill placed 20th in the shot put with a mark of 13.58 meters and Kyle Lane ended 21st in the long jump, leaping 6.18 meters.
 
Rochester will now await selections to the NCAA Division III Championships, taking place next weekend at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Qualifiers will be announced Friday evening on NCAA.com.
