GENEVA, NY – University of Rochester sophomore attacker Maeve Fogarty was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Region III Player of the Year, as announced by the organization on Thursday.

Fogarty, a 2023 NFHCA First-Team All-Region selection, a First-Team All-Liberty League honoree and the 2023 Liberty League Player of the Year, led both Rochester and the Liberty League with 13 goals and 33 total points while leading UR and ranking third in the conference with seven assists.

The St. Louis, MO native tallied her 13 goals on 79 shots (50 on goal), notching three game-winning goals against regional foes Hartwick, Nazareth and Vassar.

Fogarty appeared in and started all 21 games for the Yellowjackets, playing 1,257 minutes, nearly 95 percent of a possible 1,330 minutes played, seeing extensive action both offensively and defensively for UR. The sophomore was not only one of Rochester's top offensive players, but also was a key member of the 'Jackets' penalty corner defense, helping UR post the best goals-against average in the region and a top-10 mark in the country.

Overall, Fogarty ranked in the top 15 of Region III and top 100 of NCAA Division III in both goals and points per game, averaging 0.62 goals and 1.57 points per contest.

Fogarty is the third-straight Yellowjacket to earn NFHCA Region III Player of the Year honors after Karina Bridger and Amanda Strenk were named Region III Player of the Year in 2022 and 2021, respectively, and the fifth 'Jacket since 2016 to earn Region Player of the Year honors.

The NFHCA Division III Regional Player of the Year announcement is the second in a list of postseason awards from the NFHCA. Each regional award winner is now in the running for NFHCA National Player of the Year honors, announced on Dec. 15.
