Goodman, London Pace UR with Event Wins in First Meet of `24

BROCKPORT, NY – The University of Rochester men's track and field got the 2024 portion of its indoor slate started at SUNY Brockport's Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday at Brockport's Special Events Recreation Center, tallying 11 top-three results and seven regional-qualifying times.
 
Cole Goodman and P.J. London led the 'Jackets with a pair of first-place finishes, with Goodman taking first in the long jump, while London raced to a first-place result in the 200 meters. Goodman's 7.30m jump netted the junior first, while London ran a 22.34 time, both of which qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championships (AARTFC).
 
London also added a pair of second-place finishes, first coming in second and winning his heat in the 60 meters with a time of 7.10, before shaving 0.01 off his time in the final, again notching second and another AARTFC qualifier at 7.09s.
 
Manny Eribo joined London in qualifying for the 60-meter final, running to a fourth-place result in the first round with a 7.21s time, and also jumped alongside Goodman in the long jump, notching a regional-qualifier mark. Eribo came in third with a 6.78m jump, with Kyle Lane right behind him at 6.70m in fourth, another AARTFC mark.
 
Reward Mulauzi rounded out four Yellowjackets in the top eight of the long jump, coming in at 6.38m.
 
Sean Hendricks added UR's last AARTFC qualifier of the day, pacing the Yellowjackets in the mile with his fifth-place finish, a new personal-best 4:21.98.
 
Elsewhere on the track, Gabe Thyne took home third place in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in 50.81 seconds, with Max Creamer joining him in the top 10 in ninth (52.71). While Skye Crocker (6th, 2:00.41) and Daniel Ford (7th, 2:00.45), led UR in the 800 meters.
 
Creamer and Crocker, alongside Hendricks and Evan Bryant, also ran to Rochester's best finish in the 4x400 meter relay, coming in with a time of 3:33.01.
 
In the 3000 meters, a trio of Yellowjackets earned top-10 results, with Vishal Yalamanchili pacing the trio with a new personal-best 8:48.11 time. Nolan Goldthwaite also scored a new PR, clocking in at 9:02.10, good for ninth, while Zach Spergel finished in 10th place with a time of 9:04.31.
 
In the field events, Rochester placed at least two finishers in the top 10 in all six jumping and throwing competitions. Four 'Jackets earned top-10 results in the long jump, while three: Aadit Jain, Tate Finger and Aeden Angelone, scored in the high jump.
 
Jain finished second, surpassing the 1.86m bar, while Finger and Angelone both cleared 1.76m, while Finger placed seventh and Angelone eighth, respectively.
 
In the triple jump, Lane added another top-10 finish, coming in fifth with a 12.76m jump, with Joseph Smith (8th, 12.50m) and Maxwell Zielonka (9th, 12.28) just a few spots behind.
 
Cody Reeth and Angelone finished third and 10th, respectively, in the pole vault, as Lane cleared 4.40m and Angelone cleared 3.95m.
 
Over in the throws, Nolan Ragland's 15.47m throw earned the senior second place, with three more Yellowjackets inside the top 10. Jordan Johnson came in fifth (14.89), Zajans Crapo set a new PR with a 7th-place result (14.50), and Kevin Fobare came in ninth with a throw of 13.61m.
 
In the shot put, first-year Ethan Beer added another second-place tally with a 14.14m throw, while Dylan Rykert (12.83m, 7th) and Fobare (12.72m, 9th) rounded out their days with two more top-10 results.
 
The Yellowjackets are next in action at the Conference Challenge Cup, hosted by Nazareth University in Pittsford, NY, on Saturday, Jan. 27 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
