PITTSFORD, NY – In their final tune-up before the 2023-24 Liberty League Indoor Track & Field Championships next weekend, the University of Rochester men's track and field team notched 11 regional-qualifying marks and tallied 13 top-three results at the Nazareth Conference Tune-Up on Friday evening inside the Golisano Training Center.
Four Yellowjackets earned event wins on the evening:
James Catania in the 3,000 meters,
Aadit Jain in the high jump,
Jordan Johnson in the weight throw and
P.J. London in the 200 meters. Catania earned a first-place result in the 3k, crossing the finish line in 8:41.51, one of two regional marks in the event for UR.
Jain was UR's top finisher in the high jump, posting the 34th-best performance in NCAA Division III this season, vaulting over the 1.98m bar, a new personal best and an AARTFC qualifier.
Johnson scored his first-place finish in the weight throw, pacing four 'Jackets inside the top 10. Johnson's throw of 16.73m earned the junior first place and a regional qualifier.
Nolan Ragland (16.26m) and
Zajans Crapo (15.95m) also qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships (AARTFC) with their throws, good for third and fourth in the field. And
Armaan Butler also finished inside the top 10, throwing a season-high 14.57m, good for ninth.
London crossed the finish first in the 200 meters, qualifying for the AARTFC with his 22.49 time.
Mitch Lienert also notched a top-three finish in the event, checking in at third with a time of 22.96s.
London also ran in the 60-meter prelims and final, qualifying for the final by winning his heat and finishing second overall with a 7.12s time, while
Manny Eribo set a new indoor PR to qualify for the finals with his 7.13s time. London then hit another AARTFC mark in the final, finishing second with a time of 7.09s, while Eribo ran a 7.18s 60 meters to finish sixth.
In the 400 meters,
Daniel Ford set a new personal-best time, clocking in at 52.48s, good for 10th, while
Skye Crocker earned a fourth-place result in the 800 meters, coming in with a time of 1:58.16.
Rochester would add one more regional qualifier in the 3,000 meters, before tallying three more in the long jump.
Nick Gaitanis hit the AARTFC mark in the 3,000 meters, with his 8:46.00 time to finish fourth, while two more 'Jackets finished in the top seven:
Zach Spergel in fifth (8:47.24) and
Vishal Yalamanchili in seventh (8:49.51), with four from UR in total including Catania placing in the top seven of the event.
The Yellowjackets claimed all three spots on the long jump podium, with all three hitting AARTFC marks.
Cole Goodman led the bunch with a first-place finish and a 7.14m jump, while
Kyle Lane hit 6.76m, good for second, and Eribo came in third with his 6.73m jump.
Ethan Beer was UR's top finisher in the shot put, notching a 14.06m throw, while
Reward Mulauzi jumped 12.78m in the triple jump to finish sixth overall.
Rochester's 4x400-meter relay wrapped up the evening with a third-place result, as
Christian Voloshen,
Colin Hascup, Ford and Crocker combined for a 3:31.35 time.
The Yellowjackets next head to Canton, NY to defend their Liberty League Indoor Title, with the 2023-24 Championships, hosted by St. Lawrence, beginning on Friday, Feb. 23 at 11:45 a.m.
