CANTON, NY – The University of Rochester men's track and field team captured two individual titles and had several other scoring performances on day one of the Liberty League Indoor Track and Field Championships at St. Lawrence's Newell Field House on Friday afternoon.

Junior Cole Goodman and first-year Ethan Beer provided the wins for the Yellowjackets, winning a pair of field events. Goodman earned his second straight conference title indoors in the long jump, while Beer won the shot put.

Goodman led a 1-2 finish with teammate Manny Eribo in the long jump. Goodman's distance was a new facility record mark of 7.12 meters, with that distance also qualifying for the All-Atlantic Region championships. Eribo ended runner-up at 6.75 meters, with Kyle Lane also scoring in fifth place, jumping 6.49 meters.

The rookie Beer finally broke through with an event win after four second place finishes earlier this season, winning the shot put title with a toss of 14.35 meters. Senior thrower Dylan Rykert also scored for the 'Jackets, placing seventh with a toss of 13.28 meters.

In the mile run, junior Sean Hendricks was runner-up in 4:15.44, utilizing a strong final lap in which he passed four runners over the course of his 27.50-second split, best in the field. His time booked a spot at the AARTFC meet next week.

UR's Mitch Lienert and Evan Bryant finished in back-to-back spots in fifth and sixth during the 400 meter final. Lienert clocked in at 50.82 seconds, while Bryant ended sixth in 51.20 seconds.

Distance runners Vishal Yalamanchili and Nick Gaitanis earned podium finishes during the 5000 meters in Friday's action. Yalamanchili crossed the finish in 15:13.60, while Gaitanis clocked in at 15:23.03, an indoor PR. Both runners hit the AARTFC standard with their performances.

Sophomore Cody Reeth nabbed two points towards UR's team total with a seventh place result in the pole vault, clearing 4.15 meters in the event.

To close the day one action, UR's distance medley relay team of Skye Crocker, Mark Magyar, Daniel Ford and James Catania ended in third place with a time of 10:27.59, earning All-Liberty League honorable mention status. The group also cracked the top-35 on the Division III performance list with their time.

Three other events saw multiple Yellowjackets post strong results in preliminary heats or during the first four events of the heptathlon.

In the multi-events, UR had three athletes compete. Junior Gabe Thyne leads the group after four of the seven events with 2,569 points. His day featured a PR and first place in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters. Thyne also was first in the 60 meters (7.36 seconds) and long jump (6.26 meters) events on day one.

Teammate Aeden Angelone sits second in the heptathlon standings with 2,548 points. Angelone was runner-up among the heptathletes in the long jump (6.15 meters), shot put (11.75 meters) and high jump (1.79 meters).

Rounding out UR's entries was Ashton Tokarski who sits fifth with 2,266 points. The rookie's performance featured three season-best marks, coming in the 60 meters (7.40 seconds), shot put (10.08 meters) and high jump (1.70 meters).

During the 60 meter dash prelim heats, two 'Jacket runners qualified for Saturday's final, running nearly identical times. Eribo is the fifth qualifier running 7.06 seconds. Teammate P.J. London ended up one-thousandth of a second behind to qualify sixth.

UR's Magyar ran a season-best 8.93 second time in the prelims of the 60 meter hurdles, also reaching the Saturday finals in that event. The first-year finished Friday with the sixth fastest time.
