PITTSFORD, NY –
Sean Hendricks and
Gabe Thyne earned two more regional titles for the Yellowjackets, helping the University of Rochester men's track and field team to a third-place finish at the 2023-24 All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, hosted by Nazareth University inside the Golisano Training Center.
Thyne finished off the regional title in the Heptathlon, coming into the final three events of the competition in first, and finishing on top with a new personal-best score of 4,653 points, the 34th-best mark in NCAA Division III this season.
Thyne finished fifth (8.95s) in the 60-meter hurdles and sixth in the pole vault (3.45m) before securing the heptathlon win with a first-place result and new PR in the 1,000 meters, clocking in at 2:45.53.
Hendricks won the 800-meter regional title, improving upon his personal-best time ahead of potential qualification for the NCAA Championships. Hendricks clocked in at 1:52.78, a new PR and the 15th-fastest time in NCAA Division III, putting the junior in prime position to qualify for nationals.
Skye Crocker and
Daniel Ford also ran the 800 meters for UR, with Crocker finishing 10th with a time of 1:57.55, while Ford crossed the finish line in 2:02.25, good for 15th.
Elsewhere on the track, both
Mitch Lienert and
James Catania scored for Rochester, with Lienert placing eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.37 seconds, while Catania set a new PR in the 3,000 meters, running an 8:29.22, good for fourth in the event.
In the 200 meters,
P.J. London crossed the finish line in 22.57 seconds, good for 15th, while London, Lienert,
Evan Bryant and
Manny Eribo wrapped up the Yellowjackets' day with a fourth-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay, clocking in at 1:30.51 and winning their heat.
Over in the field events,
Jordan Johnson posted the 'Jackets' best result of the day with a fourth-place finish in the weight throw (17.49m), while
Zajans Crapo set a new PR with his 16.18m throw.
In the triple jump,
Sam Lorenzetti jumped a new indoor PR with his 13.84m jump, good for seventh to also score points for UR, while
Aadit Jain finished ninth in the high jump at 1.87m.
Overall, the Yellowjackets tallied 50 points, good for third behind SUNY Geneseo (54 points) and Rowan (100 points). Carnegie Mellon and TCNJ rounded out the top five of a field of 55 teams, 39 of which scored points.
Rochester will next send its NCAA qualifiers, announced later this weekend, to the 2023-24 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships next Friday, March 8 through Saturday, March 9 in Virginia Beach, VA.
