TOWSON, MD – The University of Rochester men's track and field team piled up 11 regional qualifiers, 10 top-three finishes and four first-place results on their opening day of outdoor competition at the Towson University Invitational on Friday inside Johnny Unitas Stadium.
The Yellowjackets' field competitors led a banner day for the men's track & field program, tallying 21 top-10 finishes, seven of the 11 All-Atlantic Region Championships qualifying marks and nine marks that rank on the NCAA Division III Outdoor Performance List.
Cole Goodman notched two of those AARTFC qualifiers, hitting the regional marks in both the long and triple jump. Goodman landed a 6.77m leap in the long jump, good for third and a top-20 jump in DIII, and a 14.69m jump in the triple, placing first and earning a top-five mark in Division III.
Manny Eribo (4th, 6.59m) and
Kyle Lane (8th, 6.36m) joined Goodman in the top eight of the long jump, while in the triple jump,
Sam Lorenzetti finished third, jumping 13.43m, a top-30 mark, and Lane finished 10th (12.86m).
In the high jump,
Aadit Jain added another regional qualifier, finishing second at 1.95m, a height that currently ranks tied for seventh in DIII. And in the pole vault, both
Cody Reeth and
Aeden Angelone finished in the top five of the event, Reeth coming in second at 4.00m, and Angelone at 3.85m (4th).
Jordan Johnson led the Yellowjackets in three of the four throwing events, winning the javelin toss and finishing top-five in both the discus and hammer throw, hitting AARTFC marks in both the hammer and javelin. Johnson finished first in the javelin with a 51.66m hurl, third in the hammer throw with a new personal-best throw of 54.48m and fifth in the discus (42.58m), with all three marks ranking in the top 40 on the Outdoor Performance List, including top 10 in the hammer.
Johnson was joined by three Yellowjackets in the top 10 of all three events,
Zajans Crapo (4th, 45.33m) and
Dylan Rykert (8th, 31.76m) in the javelin,
Ethan Beer (7th, 41.02m) and
Kevin Fobare (10th, 38.05m) in the discus, and
Nolan Ragland (4th, 50.40m) and Crapo (5th, 48.55m). Both Ragland and Crapo also earned regional qualifiers and set new PRs in the hammer, with both throws also ranking in the top 30 of DIII.
Beer led UR in the shot put, placing fifth with a 13.09m throw, while Rykert scored an 8th-place result with his 12.52m throw and Fobare came in ninth (12.45m).
Over on the track, UR tallied four regional qualifiers, and two event winners, with
Nolan Goldthwaite and
James Catania taking home first place in the steeplechase and the 5,000 meters, respectively.
Goldthwaite crossed the finish line ahead of the competition in 10:16.24 seconds in the 3000-meter steeplechase, while Catania came in first with a time of 15:07.17 in the 5,000 meters, a new PR and an AARTFC qualifier, with
Zach Spergel right behind him in second with a time of 15:32.51.
UR also scored three AARTFC qualifiers in the 100-meter prelims, led by
P.J. London, who qualified for the final with a seventh-place result and a 10.83s time, a top-50 mark in DIII. Eribo finished just outside the top 10 in 11th place, crossing the finish line in 10.97s, while
Mitch Lienert clocked in at 11.04 in 13th.
Also in the 110-meter hurdle prelims, Angelone scored the last qualifier spot with a new PR of 15.85s, with Eli VanHoover coming in 11th with a time of 17.16s.
Elsewhere in the field events,
Skye Crocker added a top-10 result in the 800 meters (7th, 2:01.43), while
Evan Bryant posted UR's best time in the 400 meters (11th, 52.18). Lienert also paced UR in the 200 meters (11th, 22.47), while
Mark Magyar was UR's top finisher in the 400-meter hurdles (12th, 1:01.66).
The Yellowjackets continue their split-squad weekend on Saturday, March 30 at the SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invite beginning at 10:00 a.m.
