3/8/2024 7:12:00 PM

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Cole Goodman earned First-Team All-America honors and Sean Hendricks broke the school record en route to qualifying for Saturday's 800-meter final on the opening day of the 2023-24 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Friday inside the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Goodman earned the University of Rochester men's track & field team's first All-America recognition of the indoor campaign, finishing fifth in the long jump. After faulting on his first two jumps, Goodman notched a 7.21m jump on his third try to advance to the final nine, where his 7.21m jump was good enough to finish fifth overall in the competition, earning the junior First-Team All-America honors.

Goodman will look to add to his honors on the second and final day of the NCAA Championships when he competes in the triple jump beginning at 11:00 a.m.

In the 800 meters, Hendricks, seeded 18th to begin the event, ran in the third heat and earned the final qualifying spot for Saturday's final, finishing fifth overall in the prelims. Hendricks opened the four-lap race with a 27.12 200-meter split and then ran a 28.01 over the last 200 meters to score the final qualifying spot and break the 800-meter school record.

Hendricks' time of 1:51.13 shaved more than one-and-a-half seconds off the junior's previous personal best and broke Rochester's indoor 800-meter record set just last year by Scott Sikorski `23.

Rochester's last NCAA competitor, Aeden Angelone, sits in 16th place in the heptathlon following the first four events of the eight-event competition. Angelone tallied 2,587 points, 137 points shy of 14th and just 197 points shy of 10th.

Angelone kicked off the heptathlon with a 19th-place result in the 60 meters, running a season-best 7.42s time. Angelone then finished 20th in the long jump (6.13m), eighth in the shot put (11.57m) and 11th in the high jump (1.83m).

As a team, the Yellowjackets sit tied for 19th out of 30 scoring teams with four points through five events, with Wisconsin-Oshkosh in first place with 15 points, while Wisconsin-Whitewater and Emory round out the top three with 14 points each.

Angelone will get day two of the 2023-24 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships started for the Yellowjackets with the first of the final four events of the heptathlon, the 60-meter hurdles, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Goodman will compete in the triple jump at 11:00 a.m., while Hendricks and the 800-meter finals are scheduled to go off at 5:05 p.m.
