‘Jackets Earn Several Top Finishes at Geneseo

GENESEO, NY – The University of Rochester men's track and field team had several top results and finishes during competition at the SUNY Geneseo Quad and Multi on Saturday afternoon.
 
Rochester's men earned four event wins, had six All-Atlantic Region qualifying marks and compiled 13 top-3 results on the day. Those finishes helped UR place second among five teams in the meet during the team scored competition.
 
The bulk of the UR scoring performances came from field event competitors, with Rochester having the best day in the hammer throw.
 
Junior Jordan Johnson led a group of five top-8 finishers, ending as runner-up with a mark of 54.77 meters, a new personal-best and the current #32 distance in Division III this season. Johnson and third place finisher Nolan Ragland qualified for regionals. Ragland's best toss was 52.06 meters on Saturday.
 
Also, scoring in the hammer for UR was Zajans Crapo in fifth (47.71m), Kevin Fobare in sixth (47.66m, PR), and Armaan Butler in eighth (45.89m).
 
Johnson also earned one of Rochester's four wins on the day, placing first in the javelin with a distance of 50.03 meters. Crapo was fourth in that event behind his teammate, posting a distance of 45.18 meters.

Fobare scored for UR in two events.

Other field event winners included Kyle Lane in the triple jump and Cole Goodman in the long jump. Lane cleared 13.53 meters in his victory, posting a new personal-best and qualifying for regionals. Goodman kept his strong junior season going with another win and regional mark, hitting 6.95 meters in his event.
 
Manny Eribo was UR's second finish in both horizontal jump events, placing second in the triple jump (13.40m, PR), and third in the long jump (6.40m). Also scoring for the Yellowjackets in those events was Sam Lorenzetti and Gabe Thyne in the long jump and Maxwell Zielonka in the triple jump. Lorenzette was fourth (6.38m) and Thyne eighth (6.25m), while Zielonka placed fifth (12.69m).
 
Rochester's other win on the day came in the 1500 meters, with indoor All-American Sean Hendricks running to first place with a time of 3:56.68, establishing a new career-best time. Teammate James Catania was sixth in the same race, cracking four minutes at 3:59.06. Both were AARTFC qualifying times.
 
P.J. London in the 100 meters and Max Creamer in the 800 meters both ended as runner-up on Saturday for the Rochester squad. London clocked in at 11.13 seconds, while Creamer finished his race in 1:59.26.
 
Both of those runners competed on UR's third place 4x400 meter relay, along with Hendricks and Evan Bryant. The group combined to finish in 3:26.91.
 
London added a fourth place result in the 200 meters in 22.37 seconds, while Bryant sprinted to eighth in the 100 meters, crossing the stripe in 11.66 seconds.
 
First-year runner Gus Smith was third in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:21.87, while classmate Mark Magyar earned the same finishing position in the 110 meter hurdles, clocking in at 17.05 seconds. Elijah VanHoover also scored for UR in the hurdles, ending fifth in 17.22 seconds.
 
During the 400 meters, two UR runners battled it out for the final scoring place, with Colin Hascup ending eighth in 51.83 seconds. Hascup edged out Christian Voloshen who finished ninth, just .03 seconds behind.
 
Rookie Ethan Beer was Rochester's top thrower in both the shot put and discus. Beer's mark in the discus was 43.36 meters, good for fourth, while he also placed fifth in the shot put with a distance of 13.94 meters.
 
Johnson added another scoring mark in the discus with a fifth place result of 42.18 meters. Dylan Rykert ended seventh at 39.94 meters in the same event, setting a new personal-best. During the shot put, Fobare was seventh at 12.93 meters.
 
Also in the field, first-year Tate Finger jumped to seventh in the high jump, clearing 1.71 meters.
 
Rochester's next event of the schedule is its second and final home event of the year, as the River Campus hosts the UR Spring Twilight next Friday afternoon.
