PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – The University of Rochester relay runners and field event performers had terrific performances in leading the men's track and field team to a runner-up finish at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Through the 20 events on the day, Rochester scored a total of 119.5 points, ending as the top Division III team. Division I Buffalo led the 13 total schools at the event with 125 team points, with SUNY Geneseo ending third with 100 points.
Junior
Cole Goodman highlighted the day, breaking his own school record in the long jump, clearing 7.44 meters to easily win the event. Goodman's mark now ranks number two in the Division III performance list for the outdoor season. Goodman's previous UR record outdoors was 7.39 meters, set at the Cardinal Classic in 2023.
Joining Goodman with a scoring finish in the long jump was classmate
Manny Eribo who leapt a career-best 7.09 meters to finish second. Eribo's mark is currently tied for 15th in Division III and both top finishers qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Championships. Teammate
Kyle Lane also scored for UR with an eighth place jump (6.49 meters).
UR's men added two first place finishes on relays during the track. Both UR's 4x100 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay currently are in D3's top-50 with their performances on Sunday.
The 4x100 meter relay team of
Evan Bryant,
P.J. London,
Mitch Lienert and
Manny Eribo finished in 42.10 seconds, qualifying for regionals and breaking the existing Rochester school record by over a tenth of a second. Lienert, London and Eribo were on the old record of 42.23 seconds set back in 2022 along with
Gabe Lundy.
Lienert was on the record breaking relay.
Later in the meet, the 4x400 meter relay team of Bryant, Lienert,
Max Creamer and
Sean Hendricks finished in 3:22.03 for first place and a regional qualifier.
Also in the field, sophomore jumper
Aadit Jain earned a win in the high jump. Jain cleared 1.96 meters on his final attempt to secure the event win and an AARTFC qualifying mark. His jump currently ranks #25 in Division III.
To close action on the track, the UR 4x800 meter relay team of
Skye Crocker,
Andrew Scheible,
Jesse Rinzel and
Daniel Ford ended as runner-up with a time of 8:36.15. Ford also led UR's runners individually in the 800 meters, ranking third in the field with a 1:57.70 time.
James Catania earned a regional qualifying time of 3:57.31 in the 1500 meters, finishing fifth in the competition.
Rochester's men had three top-8 finishes in the discus, led by senior
Jordan Johnson who finished third and was the top Division III finisher with an AARTFC mark of 44.91 meters.
Ethan Beer finished fifth with a toss of 42.12 meters and
Dylan Rykert was eighth after a throw of 38.64 meters.
UR's Beer also added a fourth place result in the shot put, posting a distance of 14.34 meters.
Nolan Ragland and Johnson also scored for the Yellowjackets during the hammer throw to finish up the days action. Ragland ended fourth with a 53.51 meter toss, with Johnson ending at 52.76 meters, good for fifth place. Both easily hit the Atlantic Regionals qualifying standard and are ranked in the top-50 in Division III.
In the sprint events, London finished second in the 200 meters with a run of 22.39 seconds. Lienert ended third in the 400 meters, crossing the finish in 49.70 seconds.
Other field event scorers were
Sam Lorenzetti and
Maxwell Zielonka in the triple jump and
Cody Reeth in the pole vault. Lorenzetti finished fifth with a mark of 12.74 meters, while Zielonka jumped 12.40 meters for a sixth place result. Reeth's height was 4.16 meters, tying for sixth in his event.
During the hurdle competitions, UR had a pair of seventh place results from
Gabe Thyne and
Mark Magyar. Thyne's time was 16.24 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, while Magyar crossed the finish in 59.09 seconds in the 400 meter hurdles.
Up next on the track and field schedule is a dual-meet weekend at Princeton University and SUNY Brockport next Friday and Saturday.
