WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Two University of Rochester sprinters, senior
Mitch Lienert and junior
P.J. London both hit new personal bests, leading a group of nine individuals that competed at the Williams College Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza on Saturday.
Overall, Rochester's men compiled five marks that hit qualifying marks for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships that are set for next week.
Lienert finished seventh in the 400 meters, setting a new lifetime best time of 49.12 seconds, an AARTFC time. Teammate
Evan Bryant competed in the same event, finishing 16th in 50.67 seconds.
London's new PR came in the 200 meters, as the junior wrapped up the competition in ninth, crossing the finish in 21.96 seconds, another regional qualifier. Lienert also ran in the 200, ending 12th in 22.31 seconds.
Manny Eribo joined Lienert, London and Bryant on UR's 4x100 meter relay squad that ended in fourth in 42.30 seconds, the best of the day for the Yellowjackets, also hitting the AARTFC standard.
Rochester's best individual result on Saturday came from
Nolan Ragland in the hammer throw, as the senior finished fifth with a mark of 52.41 meters, hitting the regional qualifying mark.
Jordan Johnson also competed in the hammer throw, placing 11th with a 46.84 meter toss.
First-year
Ethan Beer competed for the 'Jackets in both the shot put and discus. Beer finished sixth in the discus with a distance of 42.94 meters, with Johnson ending right behind with a 41.92 meter toss. Beer's result in the shot put saw him finish eighth. His mark was 13.80 meters.
UR's final regional qualifier was junior
Sean Hendricks who ended 12th in the 800 meters, running a time of 1:52.07.
This was Rochester's final chance to qualify for the regional championships that are set to take place on Wednesday and Thursday at SUNY Cortland.
