CORTLAND, NY – The University of Rochester men's track and field team wrapped up competition at the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday in eighth place among 46 scoring teams in the action held at SUNY Cortland.
UR used four scoring performances on day two to end the competition with 28 total points, ranking eighth best. Rowan took the team title on the men's side, scoring 115.5 points. Overall, 61 teams had an entry in the meet.
Junior
Sean Hendricks led Rochester's track athletes with a runner-up finish in the 800 meters, posting a time of 1:52.88. He added eight points to the 'Jackets total on day two.
A pair of decathletes secured podium finishes on Thursday, led by junior
Gabe Thyne who finished second with a new personal-best score of 6,227 points. Thyne was first in the 1500 meters to close the competition, had a PR of 15.69 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, ranking second, and also was runner-up in the discus. Thyne added a personal-best in the javelin and saw his score finish the day as the #32 score in Division III.
First-year
Ashton Tokarski ended seventh overall with 5,241 points. The rookie placed fourth in the 1500 meters in 5:00.71, and was fifth in the javelin with a season-best 37.38 meter toss.
Rochester's fourth scorer on the day was sophomore
Aadit Jain who wrapped up the high jump in eighth place, clearing 1.93 meters.
In the field, the Yellowjackets also had two competitors in both the triple jump and discus. During the triple jump, senior
Kyle Lane led the way with an 11th place result, clearing 13.55 meters on his best attempt. First-year
Joseph Smith finished the meet in 17th, jumping 12.96 meters.
The discus saw UR's
Jordan Johnson end 22nd and
Ethan Beer place 25th. Johnson's distance was 43.90 meters, while Beer ended with a 42.64 meter throw. The first-year Beer also was 27th in the shot put, posting a toss of 13.34 meters.
A pair of 'Jacket sprinters, senior
Mitch Lienert and junior
P.J. London were 17th in their individual events. Lienert ran a time of 49.35 seconds in the 400 meters, while London's event was the 200 meters, where he crossed the finish in 22.31 seconds.
UR's final individual in action on Thursday was
Zajans Crapo in the javelin. The junior posted a distance of 47.34 meters, finishing 28th in the field.
Individuals near the top of the Division III performance list will now await word on qualification to the NCAA Division III Championships that are set to close out the 2024 season next week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
