UR Men Wrap-Up Competition at Tennis Regional Tournament

Box Score MADISON, NJ – The University of Rochester men's tennis team saw its competition come to a close on day two of the ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday, as a its two remaining individual players were defeated in action taking place at Drew University.
 
Senior Krish Vennam posted a solid victory to open play on Saturday, upsetting the #4 seed Andy Zhu of Rensselaer. Vennam needed three sets to post the victory, eventually edging out a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 victory to move onto the quarterfinals.
 
In the next round, he matched up against another Rensselaer player, Archit Yumela. Yumela was able to earn the victory and move onto the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-0 victory, ending Vennam's run.
 
The three wins in the tournament were a career-best for Vennam, who previously made it to the third round as a sophomore two seasons ago.
 
Rochester's other round of 16 qualifier this year was junior Kavin Shukla. Another Rensselaer opponent awaited him in Tasmay Shah. Unfortunately for Shukla, Shah proved to be too much, posting a 6-1, 6-3 victory, advancing in the singles bracket of the tournament.
 
The ITA event closes out Rochester's abbreviated fall schedule, with the dual match season ramping up after the winter break, starting in February.
