LIGONIER, PA – An outstanding day one in an extremely competitive field at the Carnegie Mellon University Tartan Invitational sees the University of Rochester golf team in first place among 16 of the top teams in Division III.
The Yellowjackets shot a combined score of 589, carding rounds of 296 and 293 to rank first of 16 teams, 15 of which are either ranked or receiving votes in the latest Division III top-25 coaches poll. Nine of the top-10 in Division III are also in the field at the event hosted at Laurel Valley Golf Club.
Rochester holds a 1-stroke lead over top-ranked Emory after Monday's 36-hole day, with #6 Huntingdon sitting two strokes behind. 5th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan is fourth at 597.
Two 'Jacket golfers are ranked in the top-10 individually after 36 holes.
Junior
Arjun Aujla parlayed a terrific second round, shooting 3-under 69, to sit in third place on the leaderboard with a 145 score on day one. In his opening round of 76, Aujla weathered some early bogeys and finished strong, making ten pars, one birdie and one bogey on his final 12 holes. In the afternoon round, Aujla had five birdies and two bogeys to match his career record-low round.
Sophomore teammate
Eddie Ren is seventh overall after shooting a 147 after two rounds. Ren's opening round was a stellar 2-under par 70, that featured six birdies on his scorecard. Ren's second round was the fourth counting score for the Yellowjackets, with the sophomore checking in with a 77.

Galen Fowles and classmate
Alvin Su both are tied for 26th in the field. Su finished with a 77 in round one signed for a 74 in the second round. Fowles shot a 78 in the morning session before carding four birdies in his round of 73 during the afternoon wave.
Wrapping up the 'Jacket lineup was first-year
Anderson Palm who is 46th on the individual leaderboard after the opening day of competition. Palm's first round was a terrific 1-over, 73 to rank as URochester's second counting score. Palm's first 18 holes featured four birdies, including three straight from holes four through six. In the afternoon, Palm finished with an 81 to score 154 on day one.
The third and final round is set to be a shotgun start at 8:15 am, with the Yellowjackets teeing off on holes 1, 2, and 3 along with Emory and Huntingdon.
