ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester men's track and field team wrapped up the 2024-25 Liberty League Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Ithaca College inside Glazer Arena, in second place, taking home another two individual titles, nine top-three finishes and 11 All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field (AARTFC) qualifiers on the final day of competition.
Jordan Johnson smashed his second record in as many days breaking his own record in the weight throw, set earlier this season. Johnson twice broke the record across his six throws, finishing atop the podium with an 18.70 toss, the 11th-longest weight throw in NCAA Division III this season and an AARTFC qualifier.
For his efforts across the two days, compiling two Liberty League titles and setting the school records in both the shot put and weight throw, Johnson was named the Liberty League Men's Indoor Field Performer of the Meet.
Armaan Butler,
Kevin Fobare and
Zajans Crapo all joined Johnson on the podium, with Butler leading the trio with a fourth-place finish and 15.03m toss, while Fobare finished fifth at 14.96m and Crapo came in eight with a 14.69m throw.
UR matched another record in the 60 meters, where
Ronan Marston tied
Mitch Lienert's school record set back in 2023. Marston's 6.94-second time was good for third place and an AARTFC qualifier, while Lienert placed fourth, clocking in at 7.03 seconds and
Reward Mulauzi crossed the finish line in 10.83 seconds, good for eighth.
Gabe Thyne was the Yellowjackets' other Liberty League Championship on the day, taking home the top spot in the heptathlon with a 4,828-point score, a new personal best and the 16th-best score in DIII so far this season. Thyne finished first in five of the seven events including both the 60-meter hurdles (8.68) and 1,000 meters (2:42.99) on Saturday, while placing fourth in the pole vault with a height of 3.65m, setting new PRs in both the 1,000 meters and pole vault.
Three other Yellowjackets joined Thyne in the heptathlon top eight, led by second-place finisher
Emmett Hansen, who tallied 4,538 points. Hansen tallied season-bests in both the 1,000 meters (2nd, 2:48.31) and 60-meter hurdles (9th, 9.40) on Saturday, while adding a second-place tally in the pole vault (4.15m).
Jack Maness took home sixth in the heptathlon with 4,134 points, winning the pole vault competition with a height of 4.25m on Saturday, while placing eighth in the 1,000 meters (3:06.59) and 11th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.46), notching a pair of personal bests.
Ashton Tokarski then made it four Yellowjackets in the top seven of the heptathlon with 4,126 points, good for seventh overall. The sophomore placed seventh in the 1,000 meters (3:05.68), eighth in the pole vault (3.15m) and 10th in the 60-meter hurdles with a new PR of 9.45 seconds to wrap up the second day of the heptathlon competition.

Elsewhere in the field events,
Aadit Jain was UR's top finisher in the high jump, scoring a second-place result with a 1.95m height, an AARTFC qualifier, while Rochester saw three 'Jackets take three of the top-four spots in the triple jump.
Austin Lansey paced the Rochester trio with a second-place result and 13.99m leap, an AARTFC qualifier, while
Sam Lorenzetti finished third with another regional-qualifying jump of 13.89m.
Manny Eribo rounded out the trio with a fourth-place result and a 13.27m leap.
Thyne and
Mark Magyar got Yellowjackets started on the track with the 60-meter hurdles, having qualified in Friday's prelims. Thyne set a new personal-best time with his fourth-place time of 8.63 seconds, while Magyar came in seventh at 8.93 seconds.
Three Yellowjackets scored in the 800 meters, with all three notching All-Atlantic Regional qualifying times.
Skye Crocker earned UR's top spot with a sixth-place finish and 1:55.86 time, a new PR, while
Brendan McCollum placed seventh, clocking in at 1:56.06, and
Jacob Bernd finished eighth with a time of 1:56.50.
Lienert led a pair of 'Jackets in the 200 meters, placing second with a regional-qualifying time of 22.17 seconds, and
P.J. London added another AARTFC qualifier with his sixth-place result and 22.38-second time.
In the 3,000 meters,
Sam Cohen was UR's top finisher, crossing the finish line in 8:52.41 seconds, good for 17th.
UR's 4x400-meter relay squad of
Evan Bryant,
Greg Palma,
Owen Hatungimana and Lienert wrapped up the day's competition with a third-place result in the relay, running the 41st-fastest time in DIII this season at 3:22.88 seconds.
RPI took home the team title on the men's side with 251.5 points, ahead of Rochester in second place with 176 points, while RIT finished in third with 95 points.
The Yellowjackets will next compete at the 2024-25 All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championships beginning on Friday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m. in Ithaca, NY.
